Albums, singles, songs and general Ginger banter

I saw Tragedy in Oxford on both the Wildhearts and Electric Six tours and I have to say the Wildhearts crowd were way less tolerant - not antagonistic just "meh where are my band?"

A shame because I thought they were great entertainment and when the crowd gets behind them they really put on a good show - ok it ain't serious but with a pint of beer in your hand and the promise of a great headline band later why not just have fun?
Blimey but I am tired

When I saw Tragedy support the Wildhearts in decemember in London I thought the crowd where well into it. How can you not like a band who has a backing singer called Olivia Newton Chong
Did you just say "Pig Flute"?

The thought of the Bee Gees sent shivers down my spine, not a bee gees fan in all honesty. Added to a heavy metal beat and I was ready to hurl. That was until I saw them. Fuck me I was grinning from ear to ear. Tragedy were truly brilliant. If you haven't seen them you have missed a treat. One of the best support bands I have seen since the last great support band I saw.

thats exactly how i felt when i saw them in london last year.
as for people being "into" a support band or not i think it depends on your position. eg. sarc thought the crowd at the forum were well in to tragedy because he was down the front with other like minded souls. from further back the crowd is made up of people looking for their mates, getting beers in, buying tshirts and so on. this might make it look like the band weren't appreciated.
why do i have to ignore you to get your attention?

I was down the front for the Wildhearts shows, and thought it was a case of a small handful enjoying Tragedy, while the vast majority gave polite applause and weren't too sure what to make of them. It probably didn't help that they were on first, I find as I get older and see bands with a similarly ageing fanbase people are less interested in support bands, seeing them as a chance to catch up with friends or turn up later...something I'm sometimes guilty of too, but it seems a shame with the Wildhearts when they make an effort to put on quality support acts.

With the Birmingham Ginger show maybe it was a Ginger crowd being more open, maybe it was the later stage time, maybe it was that the crowd had already seen them supporting the Wildhearts so knew what to expect, but it just seemed the whole room was instantly lifted when Tragedy came on, and there were more outward displays of people enjoying them, singing, dancing etc.

They've got a new drummer since they played with The WIldhearts, and their sound has improved quite substantially.

In the guy's own words: "What's the point being All Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees if you don't have a metal drummer!?"
