I think I like Yoni better than Valor. It's more of a complete sounding album if you know what I mean? VDC was a bit sprawling and meandering in places whereas Yoni is a lot more controlled and well paced. I don't even miss the riffs, the amazing guitar solos more than make up for their abscence! Plus the songs are all fucking brilliant. I think if there was one album I'd play to someone to showcase Ginger's songwriting skills it'd be Yoni.

Finally got Yoni this morning. First impression is pretty good to be fair liking what im hearing so far.

Must give it a few more listens before i can say fav songs etc

This bed is on fire is quite awesome though :)

Only thing that im questioning so far is the Vocals seem pretty quiet.

Looks like Ginge has written yet another great album :D

Yoni

Love the new album, arguably Ginger's most tuneful yet. Cant stop singing along.
I am amazed at some of guitar work on the album, it has some of the best solos ive heard in years. I dont have the album sleeve with me so can anyone tell me who played on the album? Ginger obviously, I presume Random John, Denzel but who else? Is Conny Bloom on there or is that Ginger playing those solos?

There are about a million guest artists on various tracks, but the main band is Ginger, Jon, Denzel and Jase Edwards (and Tim Smith on most tracks). I don't know how it's split, but I'm pretty sure the solo on 'Can't Drink You Pretty' is Jase. Conny isn't on there at all according to the sleevenotes.

I thought the Can't Drink You Pretty solo was Olga from the Toy Dolls? Certainly sounds like 'im...

Could be. They're both credited as lead guitar on that track, but somebody mentioned that Ginger covered Jase's eyes while he played it at one of the gigs.

Mel Torme crops up on severeal tracks too.

just a thought - why didn't ginger release yoni under the sonic circus name?
he had been generating a lot of good press with the band and it would seem a good time to captialise on that.
i know that not all of the sonic circus original line up played on yoni but a lot of them did and ginger always said that it was supposed to be a fluid, organic line up. also there seems to be more musicians on yoni than on valor which was much more of a solo effort

just thought it would make sense from a marketing/promotional point of view.

what do you guys and gals reckon?
why do i have to ignore you to get your attention?

The plan for the Sonic Circus is for them to write and record an album together as a full band, rather then Ginger penned tracks played by the Sonic Circus, if that makes sense!

Hopefully we'll hear more on that soon... was scheduled to be released this year, but obviously the Wildhearts re-union will slow all that up.

Been avoiding this thread until I'd heard the album for myself (which took a little longer for me to receive 'cause I'm a cheap skate and wouldn't pay postage so it was bundled with another album though in the end Amazon shipped them separately anyway)...

To be honest, I'm still not bonding with this album. I love Black Windows but for me there's too many long solos on the record as a whole (this coming from a lead guitarist). It's obvious the musicians playing on the album are a very proficient bunch and the sound is pretty good, much cleaner than Valor, but there's a bit too much funk for me - this is not a criticism, it's just not really my cup of tea.
