Return to Zero - bad quality, or how it was meant to sound?

Postby seventieslord » 11th Jul 07, 08:52

Return to Zero, even when mastered to CD on Coupled With, sounds like garbage. But, by that standard, so does everything on Endless, Nameless, and that was intentional.

So, I ask for your opinions again - does RTZ sound so muddy/fuzzy/badly mixed/distorted intentionally, or does it have something to do with the fact that it began as a vinyl-only track and was brought to CD? Better than Cable is another such track, but it sounds crystal clear on CD.

You think it sounds rough on Couple With? You should check out the version on Riff After Riff. You'd swear there's something wrong with your stereo.

I can't really say why it's like that... but I have a pretty strong feeling that the "good version on Coupled With is actually a super-tweaked version of the really muffled one from Riff After Riff. I think they somehow got stuck with a shitty master and had to do what they could with that.

I kinda thought that too. It wouldn't have even crossed my mind that it was unintentional, except for the fact that it was originally a vinly-only song.

I like the fact that it sounds that way personally. Think it adds something extra to the song

Sounds intentional to me.
