I seem to remember that the gates were about an hour late opening as well, cos we were in the pub at the bottom of the hill and we kept peeking outside the door to see if they were letting people in yet, and coming back in saying "nope, might as well have another pint in here".

Aye thats right. It was about the only time I was warm all day. Sat on some church wall laughing at some girl moaning about how cold she was already. God knows how she felt later on!!!!!

I remember getting a unopened bottle of water consficated from me before the gates. & it wasn't very easy to get any sort of liquid at the gig alcoholic or not.

The organisation has a shambles, but it sounds like they tried their best and even though I was cold and sober.... it's still a memorable weekend for me!

The Wildhearts should do something like this again with some better organisation.

#ginger was still playing with a broken finger too i beleive , as well as the over runs hitting their set up a bit , hot steve having to pull camera men out of the way of the pyro .. assorted other d00m ..

carling were going to be doing the beer but pulled out very shortly before , and ginger said the stage blew away into the sea but that 'may' have been an exxageration ..

the second stage was very small .

there were girls at the front gate who'd won a competition to see johnny truant and the security dint know how to sort it ... JT were on as we went in so feel bad for them girls .

a few people were upset at having water taxed , apparently there was a bunch of water backstage to give out at the front .. but no-one to do it . MOAR D00M !

plenty of listees hanging out the night before and day after to , made for a great weekend , shame bout the weather on the saturday !

as it was , it did feel a little overbooked .. but you could say its value for money that way ? hanoi rocks set was very short as a result , and 80's matchbox were very late ocming on and played over plan a IIRC ( the small stage PA had little chance againt them )
don't gimme your manson lamps

Yep, as told by Ginger at the Custard Factory gig four days later:

Ginger had indeed just recovered from a badly set broken finger and had had to more or less learn how to play guitar again with it (It's got a funny twist in it if you look at it now) - he also said he couldn't really feel it due to the cold.

Carling (Insert a.n.other awful corporate brewery if it wasn't) were supposed to do it, but apparently they turned up at the gate the day before, couldn't get their truck through (slightly spurious that, it's a big old gate), took one look at the site and said: 'fuck this for a game of soldiers, we're offski!'. The tent that blew off the cliff was, I believe, a second beer tent which is why there was such a problem - props to the local company who stepped in at the last minute though, else there might have been no beer at all!!

I think that there was one too many bands on the main stage to allow for a proper extended soundcheck.

Had it been properly run, oh, and staged sometime between May and August when the sun's out, it probably would have been a resounding success, alas due to the negative publicity caused by the promoters, it's unlikely ever to happen again. :(

Well the lesson learnt is - never go to Scarborough for a gig again!! Try tenting in there at this time of year!! Craziness. Still i made it onto the dvd!!

The day had many faults, but you know, I look back on it fondly. I really do.

I was fucking freezing cold, there was zero merchandise, I had to buy an English Heritge hat to keep warm, there was no hot drinks (only lukewarm), it was a long way from home.
But still I really look back with warm feelings.

I'd love to see another, much better organised event, The Wildhearts really deserve a bigger stage. A really cool location, as Scarborough Castle was, would be great, with lots of friends bands if you get my gist. God Dam Whores, Eureka Machines etc..

Hell, let's organise it ourselves. Surely amongst us we have the collective talent and skills to organise such a day?

I'm sure that's exactly what the people who did it last time thought - and look what happened...

I reckon Carling got wind that they weren't going to get paid or something and said fuck it.

I've been trying to find the right web page but can't. but...

The Scarborough News or some paper which sounds similar had something about it around the time, there was the story about the organisers trotting off before it kicked off and not being available in person (ever again)?

Anybody got the story?
