I don't agree with the rocksound comment about Ginger should only open his mouth to sing I doubt any of you lot will either, I have a feeling that the review may not know anything about the band cuz anyone who knows even the tiniest bit about the Wildhearts should know that there's going to be a ton of buggering about.
Also the comment about egging us on to buy the Scarborough dvd, there's only one word that could possibly sum up those words.............BOLLOCKS

I like both reviews. This is deffo a fan thing I think. I know I'll love it and I know I'll love the banter as well as the music, however I am well aware that Ginger's patter does sometimes hit a little off the mark.

I still don't get the too many bubbles thing. I can only assume it is some kind of pop culture reference that I'm not privy to.

I can't wait to see DAM on thisw DVD.

to be fair, that's true of pretty much all music dvds - it's easy enough to impulse buy a CD, since you can either properly listen to it, or just throw it on in the background. with a DVD, you're actually putting aside time (and more money than you'd pay on a CD) to watch it, so there's gotta be an interest further than curiousity to actually get it.

just my opinion anyway - i own very few music DVDs for this reason. i'm not even that fussed about this one, i'll wait a few months and get it cheap off amazon. if it was the audio only (songs, gags and all) on a CD it'd be a different story...

Regardless of what some people are saying, I would contend that the Scarborough Castle DVD is worth having if you're a fan. It's not the best live show ever, but it's the only Wildhearts one disc and it's really not all that bad.

I think that backsage larking about from a band is nearly always a fan thing, I am sure I will enjoy the between songs stuff cos I am a big fan of the band but I could understand why someone who isn't so "hardcore" might find it a bit superfluous.

I like Green Day, but one of their live dvds has between song banter/interviews which I skipped past cos I am not that intersted in the band themselves.

As for Ginger's banter, he is a character and has a lot of charisma and can be funny as fuck. Must admit that Xmas gig last year with the constant replaying of "Fuck Christmas" wore thin after a while though.

I don't think the concept is a dead end one, seeing a band in the studio is a rare thing. Up close and personal, you really get to see how the songs are performed not stuck behind some guy with a huge head at a gig!!!.

I think that separately is usually the order of the day. Certainly for the self-titled album they recorded the vocals separately at the end. In a haunted house.

Yeah - the performance on the DVD kinda straddles the line between live and recorded, as they're using the full benefit of a controlled recording environment but are playing everything live. It's a great idea as it's all live and 'happening', but you are hearing each instrument at the highest quality possible.

I would probably imagine that for the actual album (and perhaps most of their albums), they recorded the instruments live together on the same take, then recorded vocals over it, along with any guitar/bass parts that need to be rerecorded. That's at least the ideal - most bands use a 'live' take a a guide track, and then record individual instruments over it.
