Sheffield - early start?

Postby Col » 27th Nov 08, 18:11

Just a heads up that Academy website has show times 6.30 - 10pm

Who's going by the way?

I'll be there + 1, will be meeting SteveP there.

I'll be there, but can't get down for early doors. Probably get there about 8pm :?
I hope I don't miss A.

Oh yes :D

We'll be in The Howard, just opposite the train station, from about 3ish I reckon. Planning to wander up the road to the venue (about 2mins walk away) at 6ish. The door staff at the venue are very slow to let folks in though.
How dare you!

Mrs Santiago and I shall both be in attendance at the Sheffield gig and may well drop in the Howard for a 'sharpener'. Though I'm hoping to be 'razor sharp' on arrival in Sheffield due to a spot of power drinking on the train over from Donny!
If you see a bloke with dreads and a nose ring, that'll be me so feel free to come over and tell me to "Fuck Off" or whatever! :D

By the way, controversial opinion on this imminent tour. The band are playing venues that are way too big, as far as I know, non of the gigs are even close to been sold out. :(

i imagine when the shows were booked no one anticipated the sudden decline in the economy and everyone being broke!

to be fair everytime ive seen them on the last 2 uk tours (manchester (twice), wolverhampton (twice) & London (twice)) theyve all been sold out. which is 1000, 1300 & 2000 respectively - infact manchester was so full people were struggling to get inside the gig room including me!

I think upgrading to the next size up venue makes sense if you're selling out the previous size venue, espcially with the recent press/download festival etc.. they seem to be a band on the up at the moment.

just my two cents

Aye, the only way to find out how many people you've turned away from previously sold out shows is to take a chance and make the jump to a larger venue. If it works (and I hope it does - the Civic's tons better than the Wulfrun) great, if it doesn't, you'd have to consider either playing to small sold out rooms or moving to somewhere in between. Although I don't know where you'd go around Brum, 'cos the Academy claims more or less the same capacity as the Civic.:?

It's possible that, if they are that short, they might close off any upstairs areas and move everybody into the stalls.

Ok change of plan - if the curfew is at 10pm then i need to get there a bit earlier than 8pm. I have asked my boss very nicely if I can leave early to get a better train and he said yes! :D
Should be there about 7.15pm, not going to bother going to pub first just run straight in to get warm.
