This is true - once you are there you will be glad you went.
I had one of those 'can I really be bothered?' moments last year when I had to rush from work to home to train to gig, just to go on my own and it was going to cost me loads in taxis etc - I was very close to not bothering at all and staying at home in the warm but I was so glad I went - it made a cold crap week into a happy christmas event which cheered me up no end.
So don't wimp out, you will be all the better for going.

This the best support line-up the Wildies have had for a long time, and the band are on the best form they've been ever. The gigs outside of the UK have given them fresh impetus, and they are tighter than I've ever seen them at the moment.
Missing it would be foolhardy. If I didn't have a family commitment on Wenesday, I'd be making the 500 mile round trip for another dose. It'll be a great night.
Just consider also that there will be very good reasons for the venue change. It isn't done for fun, or without thought for people who have bought tickets. Putting shows on is more difficult than usual at the moment.

What's wrong with the forum??

Nothing, I just think we along with the band are getting messed around a bit to much here ticketwise

Fair enough - but surely you'll still have a good night if you go?? The Forum is still a good venue, and from reading the reviews on this 'ere board, the band seem to be completely on top form!

I was having a read through of various threads, including the notorious cloakroom, and came across the thread about Floyd leaving The Almighty -

http://www.gingerandthesoniccircus.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=3944

so I had a mosey over to the Almighty site, and read this on the home page

http://www.thealmighty.co.uk/

It appears the same company, Hostile Promotions (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=31704302) were promoting both Almighty and Wildies December gigs. Is this another case of a promotions company overpromising and under-delivering (remembering last years Christmas gig in Wales that got pulled at the last minute).

Or am I just being over cynical?

Despite all this, will still be making the trip to London on Wednesday, after stealing the weekend at HRH, I can officially confirm the Wildhearts are currently on fire!!

I think that it was a worthwhile testing of the waters to see how it would go. If you're selling out smaller places, sooner or later you need to find out by how much, and the only way to do that is to try somewhere larger.

Had it been a year or so ago, when everybody still had mountains of spare cash, it probably would have worked - especially if everybody who saw them at Download came, but people are sadly having to put stuff like eating ahead of nights out.

That said, I think they were always reaching a bit with the Hammy O, the place holds five thousand, and they haven't filled a place like that since Brixton in 1995.

!

From what i gather a Promotions company is meant to promote.

This shower don't appear to do very much of that as there was no mention in National Gig listings or in papers like the Sunday mail of The Wildhearts tour resulting in a just over half full Barrowlands and from what i see the rest of the tour has had venue changes to smaller venues.

Had i not had internet access i'd have honestly had no idea there was a tour on

I agree - I was pretty surprised when I saw the Apollo gig announced. Over the last few years I've seen Velvet Revolver, Green Day, NIN and Bjork there and, much as I adore them, WH don't have the same pulling power I suspect, plus bear in mind they only just played in September.

Fair play for trying though! and it'll be better to be rocking out at a full up Forum than a semi-full Apollo I reckon.

Bring it on!

To be fair there have been some sizable adverts in Kerrang running for the past few months and I have seen the tour listed in other music magazines (can't remember which ones - i was reading them in WHSmith while waiting for a train). I don't know what the full deal is with this but I think promotion can only be a part of it - if people don't want to spend money before xmas then you can't make them.

Well, Time out are advertising it in their listing as the 15th Anniversary gig, so they didn't bother checking up.

Just had an email saying they are not opening the balcony at the Forum, so any seated tickets are now standing tickets.

I reckon it will be pretty full!

I thought promotion for this tour was much improved on recent tours, there seem to have been more ads in the rock press at least. And I think the days people outside of the rock press had an interest are gone sadly.

Exactly. When they played Brixton they were regularly on the cover of Kerrang and RAW, in these magazines most issues as well as Metal Hammer, and even NME, Melody Maker and other indie press gave them good reviews and interviews. They were also played regularly on the biggest radio show in the country, and had top 20 hits in a world where everyone else was multiformating. But despite all this, when they played Brixton in 1995, despite it being their first London gig in 18 months, the upstairs was closed. It's fantastic they've tried to play the bigger venues, just maybe poor timing.

No, it means that not enough tickets sold to warrant opening the balcony and getting the extra staff required in. Downstairs holds something like 1200-1300 people.

It was pleasantly full, not completely jammed which isn't so fun. I like the Forum as a venue, it's easy to get to from nearly anywhere, the pubs near it aren't bad, and it's the right kind of size. Koko's last year was a bit too narrow.

I enjoyed seeing them at The Forum far more than Koko or Shepherds Bush - much better than those venues (and Hammersmith) it virtually every respect as far as I'm concerned. :D
