Caffeine Bomb - how do you make one? Who's had one?

Title says it all...

I am pretty sure a Caffeine Bomb is made with Sugar, Coffee, and Whiskey. Does anyone know the 'official' recipe? Or would the formality of a recipe defeat the purpose? Who here has had one? I was thinking of having a couple prior to the NYC boat show in October.

I've done it a couple of times.

Ginger reccomended doing it as a 50/50 split between whiskey and coffee. Think it needs to be proper (not freeze-dried) coffee, and the whiskey was Jameson or JD. I think.

The first time I did it I whacked it all in a big mug and downed the lot before going out to a party. By all rights it did the job, got me hyper and pissed at the same time.

The second time I did it I made the lot in a Jameson irish coffee glass I had. Unfortunately the glass had a deep crack in it, so when I poured in the boiling water the entire glass exploded and covered our pristine white worksurface with black coffee and whiskey! It's still sticky about 4 months on.

So, moral is : Use decent coffee, use decent whiskey and use a fucking sturdy glass!

EDIT : Oh yeah, I forgot about the sugar. I think I used 3 or 4 spoonfulls.

"Too sweet. too strong"...50/50 mix is right. I recommend that JD is NOT used, but that's just my personal taste. Jaimeson's will work well but I prefer Grouse.

It has to be strong enough for the varnish to start to melt...

And also... "ten percent coffee"... so thats 90% whiskey or maybe 10/80/10 with sugar?

The thing to remember about Caffeine Bombs is that those who find the perfect mix can rarely recall the recipe.

And may try to kill their friends. (see Ask Ginger - May 1999)

Ah, that brings back memories. Largely of hiding in the toilet from a very lovely but extremely twatted man, thankfully one whose command of weaponry &, more importantly, his legs was suffering from the after effects of finding the perfect Caffeine Bomb recipe.

Which no-one could remember.

On a mildly related topic, I found a recipe yesterday for making coffee wine. Apparently it's pretty potent stuff.. probably loses most of the caffeine through brewing, sadly.

But I may well give that a try..

I'm sure I remember Ginger answering this somewhere once.
His answer was something like; 'black coffee, Jack Daniels, sugar, experiment with the quantities'.

I did and it was bloody great, can't remember my mix though.
