I might actually sign up for Twitter in time for the tour. I don't generally see the point of it unless you have something to sell / a need to network. I'm not going to tell the world 'ooh I just had a nice cup of tea' but I have heard people say it's good for organising lots of folk at conferences etc, so could be good for saying 'I am in this pub, doors don't open for half an hour yet so come for a pint' etc.

It's essentially just the status line from Facebook without all the extraneous crap and applications, but you only get the length of a text message to get your message across. You can send tweets into it by text message though, so you don't absolutely need internet access to post - only to read messages.

Yes, although there is also a search facility, whereby you can see everybody that is 'tweeting' about the same subject. So, for example, when Ginger tours, you can assign a hashtag (say, gingertour) and if everyone that tweets about the tour includes the hashtag on their tweet, you can look in one place and see everyone that's tweeting about it. It's sort of a live blog by lots of different people.

Yes I was thinking the same - we need to agree on a hashtag to use, ideally as short as possible to not take up too much message space. I was thinking something like #gatsc or Ean suggested #ging09, as long as we pick something that's not already being used for something else. I guess #gingertour has the benefit of being clear.

A good example is to look at all the coverage of South by Southwest - you can find everyone's comments by searching for #sxsw
