I meant after Kerrang had there office attacked by WH, not before. Like I said i feel people are now using this as an exucse to gang up on me. Im a Wildhearts fan too, so dont make me feel un-welcome. I guess Ill have to keep my views to myself.

Hi,

I don't think anyone is trying to make you unwelcome James; 'robust' discussion is what makes internet discussion groups go round is all...

Sorry if I've caused any offence, just personally I think Kerrang have been a pretty good supporter of Ginger over the years, and they have no obligation to 'support' any artist: editorially they can choose to support or omit whoever or whatever they think will sell most copies.

Cheers
Kris

Im admitting that my views on Kerrang are alittle too negative, but wouldnt it be nicer to see a even bigger push for WH?

On Vanilla Radio, Im glad its there. It seems to get ppl from other genre's over to the Wild Side as my sister loves the song. That from a Good Charlotte fan!

WORKED UP!!! Why I Outta...

Im sticking by what I said. And i never said it was over a bad review, Ean, so your jumping the gun. Kerrang may not of blacklisted WH, but I imagine it taught Kerrang a lesson: dont report things on bands that arent confirmed, you could piss off said band. It left K! with a band taste in there mouth. Plus, yeah it was 12 years ago, but if we should forget it because of the past then lets forget Phuq which is 12 years old, shall we??? I dont think so.

I never said that you said it was over a bad review, that's why I quoted Dr.J.Jones, you just took his assertion and ran with it.

'Don't report things that aren't confirmed'? bloody hell, they'd better shut down the news desk then (and most of Fleet Street).

Come off it, dude, are you really suggesting that the Kerrang! incident and the release of PHUQ are in any way analogous just because they happened in the same year? That's just ridiculous.

What Im saying is the coverage recently has been great, but I feel they could of done more. The Where To Start With feature was great (yeah, I know I posted here about it first) but they didnt say in the actual feature WH have a new album and tour. Thats elsewhere in the issue. You thought they would of made a point of saying something.

But, until a few weeks ago there wasn't anything to report except speculation.

As you say, they said it elsewhere in the issue. So instead of an appearance on two pages, they got exposure on four instead, and people who might have skipped the article would likely have checked the forthcoming albums and gig list to see what's coming up.

I meant after Kerrang had there office attacked by WH, not before. Like I said i feel people are now using this as an exucse to gang up on me. Im a Wildhearts fan too, so dont make me feel un-welcome. I guess Ill have to keep my views to myself.

I've got to say, I read Kerrang! religiously all through that period and saw no noticeable downturn in the number of appearances until a sudden drop off in late '97. When they split... ah!

Oh, and man, if you don't like Kerrang!, don't force yerself to read it: It's really not worth the bother and there're better mags around. If you do fancy a spot of spleen-venting, it would be far better directed at such august publications as Q and the NME who, for whatever reason, wouldn't urinate on the Wildhearts if they were ablaze.

We don't want you to feel unwelcome. This shit is Pub-arguing on a grand scale. We'll hate you and all you stand for with a passion for about five minutes, then we'll all be mates again and someone else gets to be the cunt for a while. :D

I dont read it. I could go on, but I wont. I also dont read NME or Q.

Im using the Kerrang Office/Phuq thing to point out that just because it was 12 years ago doesnt mean people cant still talk about it. I admit it was lame, but hey I start a new job tomorrow and really worried so Im in a foul mood. But I feel I was alittle blindsided.

To credit it Kerrang, they HAVE featured Ginger & Co. abit over the last few months. Reviews for Howling Willie, God Damn Whores, Yoni, Earth Vs... ranked 20 in their 100 greatest albums, then being featured as a classic album (this week its Aerosmith) and now Where To Start With... has been a good run as of late. I was trying to get across that before then I dont remember being that much WH coverage in such a short period of time.

And for the cunt thing, Id rather not be called that. Let it be a dick. Wait, that sound odd...

Are you suggesting Kerrang are a little more tactile in their support of certain bands than we thought?

But talking about a creative event like a great album is a bit different to dwelling on a pretty dumb destructive event that did little except make non-fans (and a fair few fans too I'd imagine) think "What a bunch of twats". I'm sure that you'd find it irritating if you did something years ago that people insist on reminding you of, even though you'd rather they let it go?

But before that, there wasn't really any Wildhearts to speak of, and certainly nothing you might call news.

Apologies. I only meant it in a friendly way. :D

Ean,

I think you are totally taking out of context what I wrote. I READ IN KERRANG! (at the time) the trashing of a computer (& other stuff) was due to a bad REVIEW Malcolm Dome gave them (turned out to be someone else).

How would you know the 'facts' unless you were there? I didn't say what they reviewed because I don't remember (I haven't read that toilet roll since the mid 80's). Basically they slagged off The Wildhearts for something & Ginger & co took offence & trashed something!!!

I have personally been into Ginger since he was with the Queerboys (yes that was purposeful as that is what they used to be called) & seen him many times when The Quireboys / Queerboys were the band to take out as support as that is all we had). What makes you such an expert on the man / band? From what I READ (& what I remember) Ginger apparently said to CJ & Danny "Let's Do It" & they went upstairs & 'did it'.

I'm not saying I'm an expert on the man, but The Wildhearts are the last UK / USA / Rest Of The World band I have been able to get into (as everything after 1992 IS SHIT) & as for visa's, I know for a fact NOTHING has changed since 9/11 as I work for Homeland Security here in the US!

Anyway, having vented, rightly or wrongly, in my last post, I'm glad at least one magazine (even if it is KOMIC!) has done an in depth feature on the band (ok so it's a buyer's guide type of thing) as they do deserve it because next to Motorhead they are the most consistantly talented band in the UK, if not beyond.

It would seem to me there is some long overdue success to be found here in the States as they do have, for now, a cult following. It's not all made up of expats either as I have met quite a few Americans who know of them. Plus 'Earth Vs....', '....Destroyed' & 'Riff After Riff' all got officially released here (meaning we didn't have to scour second hand stores like a rock-starved junkie, or pay inflated import prices to get our hands on these jewels) so somebody thinks there could be an audience for them.

Would have been nice to see them in New York though. Pity they have a tit handling their visa applications.

I'm sure Steve Hogarth told that joke on every night of Marillion's Marbles tour, and it still makes me laugh! :D
