I think you are totally taking out of context what I wrote. I READ IN KERRANG! (at the time) the trashing of a computer (& other stuff) was due to a bad REVIEW Malcolm Dome gave them (turned out to be someone else).

How would you know the 'facts' unless you were there? I didn't say what they reviewed because I don't remember (I haven't read that toilet roll since the mid 80's). Basically they slagged off The Wildhearts for something & Ginger & co took offence & trashed something!!!...

...From what I READ (& what I remember) Ginger apparently said to CJ & Danny "Let's Do It" & they went upstairs & 'did it'.

The other post wasn't aimed specifically at you, I just wanted to point out some things after you made that statement and others grabbed it and ran with it.

It's hard to take :-

Maybe Kerrang! don't do a feature on them that much because the band trashed their computers one day after a particular damning review.

in more than one way. You stated that the trashing was a result of a bad review: simply not true. I even gave you a quote from the Official History on the WH.com to support this. The link also included a quote from Danny about the incident :-

Second Entry Down

11 January 1995 Kerrang! publish a news item alleging that the band have "numerous internal problems". The magazine claims that there is a rift between Danny and Ginger. That same afternoon, the Kerrang! offices are visited by Ginger, Danny and Ritch, who proceed to smash up a desk, a computer monitor and keyboard, and "a variety of personal effects", causing over £2,000 worth of damage. Danny tells me in September 1998: "Normally we wouldn't take offence at people saying we'd split up, because we do it all the time. But when it's true it's true, and when it isn't it isn't. It was a fight for fuckin' honest journalism, not fuckin'... It wasn't us just being clever and we weren't looking for press. We just went down 'cos we were fucked off, d'ya know what I mean?"

But if you're not willing to believe Danny and Darren, who's a friend of the band, I don't know what I can say that would change your mind.

I read Kerrang! from long before until long after and the event made no noticeable difference to the amount of press they got.

Oh, and it was Ginger, Danny and Ritch - CJ had been gone six months at this point.

I'm just a long time fan who likes to read as much as I can about my favourite band (including the K! news item in question and the follow up a week later) who's unfortunately blessed/cursed with a brain that files away pointless facts like the above incident for later use. Plus I looked it up before I said anything just to make sure.

Re. the Visas. I'll concede nothing official may have changed, but is it really just a coincidence that so many artists are getting turned down. Surely they can't all be employing the same moron to do their paperwork?

Ean,

Well I will concede that the old grey matter might be affecting me these days but it was just what I read that it all. Apparently (also from what I read) the thing I read was written by someone who says they overheard Ginger & co planning this when they passed them on the stairs leading up to the KERRANG! offices.

Then again I also read Ginger was kicked out of the Quireboys because he 'couldn't play' which, from interviews he has given since, seems not to be the case.

Wharever happened to The Throbs?

Rumour has it, I believe, that it was the YTS teaboy on his way out for lunch or something. Someone definitely overheard the 'lets do it' bit.

Last I read (possibly in Classic Rock, but I can't be sure), he was saying that he got kicked out because he was on too many drugs and that it was a bit rich considering they were all in rehab six months later.

Christ knows - but he didn't last long with them either.

I think Ginger said somewhere that it was later K! and present Q editor Paul Rees who actually let them in, and that 'He was a teaboy then, or something.' If this is not a dementedly anal level of trivia to be getting into. :)

I don't know about that, I suppose it could have been him, but I don't think he was the teaboy then.

I'm sure he was around earlier, 'cos he acquired the nickname Chesney Hawkes due to his remarkable likeness to said one hit wonder, and that was back in 1991/2 :?

You say that like it's a bad thing. :D

So....Chesney Hawkes used to serve the tea when Paul Rees was in The Wildhearts....but Ginger wrote them a bad review and thought that he should be in charge of the band....so he jumped up and kicked the shit out of his computer......just as Danny crashed unconscious through the door....no, fuck...what happened again?

Bloody hell?

As the controversy, er, rages on...

Funnily enough, I just found the March 2004 issue of Classic Rock, where Dave Ling interviews Ginger at length and says that he (Ling) saw Ginger et al on the stairs just before they marched into the office on that fateful day. Ginger says that 'funnily enough,' they smashed up Malcolm Dome's desk and computer; even though it was Jon Hotten who'd written the story.

So ner!

Er................
