new single from The Wildhearts?

Postby JSayonara » 1st Jun 07, 03:10

Anybody else think that Inner city overture really should be a single?
Got top ten written all over it imho.
Peace, Jaymz.

I think the three-part harmony thing for the second-verse won't go over too well. Just a little too pretty for the people who, I assume, the guys are looking to attract.

I think anything would have been better than "The New Flesh", but I'm American. I don't know what British radio listeners want to hear. :)

Personally i think the New Flesh is a belter of a single - catchy as hell with real inciteful lyrics.

Don't take this personally (i'm not having a pop) but do you not like that song because of the anti-american-government stance in the lyrics? Or is it simply just not one of your favourates?

Personally i can't stand She's All That - the only filler on an otherwise spotless album.

In any other context than the lyrics of a song, I would take issue with a few things said in the song. That being said, it's still one of my favorites from the new album.

I getting tempted to start a "Shes all that" appreciation thread, thats one of the highlights of the second half of the album for me...
Oh yeah, X-GF Media have another new video of Scott and CJ talking in Leeds on their myspace, this ones actually features clips of the final product of the New Flesh video though...

I have no problem with the lyrics, in fact I agree with them 100%. I just think the song is annoying.

I think the verses on "She's All That" are catchy as hell. They always make me bob my head, so how can that be bad? 8)

When thinking about possible singles from this album, I'm kind of led down a road I don't like going down. I think that with this album they have taken their two polar opposite musical personalities and put them as far apart from each other as possible, and then skipped a lot of the middle ground. I love the whole album, but if I'm being honest with myself, when thinking about radio singles, I think that this album is a lot of uber-poppy bubblegum and a lot of uber-angry screaming. If you compare it to what's getting airplay right now and what is getting the kind of attention we want the 'hearts to be getting, what you've got is either something along the lines of Sevendust or Disturbed jumping directly into some weird mix of blues based-guitar-rock and pop punk. Like Great White meets Bowling for Soup. The point is that the middle ground isn't there and that makes a radio single hard to come by... at least a proper radio single.

All the way up until Endless Nameless (actually, in my opinion, up until TWMBD) you had your heavy, heavy bashers, Moodswings, Soul Searching, Woah Shit, and you had your poppy stuff... Just In Lust, Nita Nitro, Sick Of Drugs... but in between it all you had your gradients, V-Day, Inglorious, Love Bank, TV Tan, Suckerpunch... even Vanilla Radio... hard rockers with a more moderate kind of anger, and a more moderate kind of pop. What we've got now is an album with four or five Just In Lusts and two or three Shut Your Fucking Mouths with choruses spliced from Lilly's Garden. And then you have Slaughtered Authors and Destroy All Monsters sitting out there by themselves.

So, discounting Rooting, Sweetest and Monsters... for sheer heaviness and agression, and discounting Authors for length you're left with a lot of really great songs that are, in my opinion, far too poppy and sweet to get the guys out in front again and into the sort of position I'm assuming they want to be in.

If I were in a position to decide what sort of image the guys should be presenting themselves with at this point, I seriously think I would be pushing for a release of Destroy All Monsters... maybe a little trimmed for time... but from start to finish, I think that song desribes what these guys are about, and have been about all along, more than any of the others.

It's just that when they finally hit, I wanna see them competing with System of a Down, not Maroon 5.

Why? System of a Down sucks.

I've been thinking a shortened radio edit of Slaughtered Authors would be an incredible single. ¬It's still my favourite song on an album of favourites, and I think it's one of the best things he's written this century. I also think the opening bass line and soaring choruses would go down well on the radio.

They've grown on me, but that's beside the point. How good they are is moot. The point is more that that's the kind of audience that I, personally, think is most suited for the Wildhearts,

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I feel like this album is a "for the fans" effort, custom built for us, the die-hard fans... but not really something that has a place "out there" right now.

Not bad at all! Each to their own, horses for courses etc etc. World would be boring if we all liked the same stuff.

I 'm a fan of BI-POLAR BABY myself.
With just a few edits to take care of the curse words, they'll be good to go.
I think the songs catchy as hell.

Too right! That bassline really gets inside you and carries you towards the verse on a high. Bi-Polar Baby would be another shoe-in for a single release for me. A catchy chorus that seems just a bit tongue-in-cheek.

Can't argue with that.
