Myspace Bulletin: Rock Sound And Kerrang! Features

Postby Col » 15th Nov 07, 23:55

Hello all,

The nice folks at Rocksound have done a feature on us this month whilst we were filming our rather gruesome video for destroy all monsters..

Also Kerrang! this week have done a page on the 'brit rock scene' in the UK during the 90's (it was a scene???), with an essential guide to some great albums (ours being number 1 of course!)

They are in our photos (press folder) if you can't get the magazine..

I don't wanna see this video :(
The girl was cut up without anesthetic or whatever, according to the rock sound feature.
It's just fucking gruesome.
As much as I love the Wildhearts, this is a bit much for me :(

I agree, seems a bit sick to me.

I think it's brilliant. What you guys are feeling right now is exactly what we WANT people to be feeling.

Recall the early days of Ginger vomiting into CJ's mouth... scorpions and barbed wire across the face. They need to shock some people.

That kind of stuff wasn't that bad though! the sick obviously wasn't real sick and the insects and barbed wire...whilst a bit wierd and not something I would do personally didn't really 'shock' as such.

This one seems a bit too much like the "hostel" trend for me and I hate those kinds of films so I'm assuming I won't like this either lol

In the article, Ginger says CJ didn't enjoy it...

As much as I doubt CJ enjoyed the vomiting for the Caffeine Bomb video, this really is a bit far.
And as for shocking some people? It won't be shown on TV so therefore it will not be able to shock a wide target audience.
It will probably just be another YouTube/MySpace thing, and that's all well and good. Although all those Radio 1 listeners who have heard 'Cheers' on Radio 1, what will they think when they see a video of a woman being cut open on the WH's MySpace?
The YouTube video is most likely to have an age restriction on it; Hardly gonna appeal to the teeny boppers which you think the WH's would be targeting...

I'm all for Destroy All Monsters, I love the song, I love the lyrics, the drumming, riffs and hooks, but I don't like the video at all.

As for the Earth vs. album cover, it doesn't look real, so therefore isn't shocking.

Come on guys, be a bit realistic, The Wildhearts need to broaden their target audience and fan base.
In fairness, the airplay for Cheers probably came at just the wrong time for the Wildhearts... if it had've been played just as the New Flesh was released, maybe we'd have a different, more radio-friendly single on the table...
I know I've said it a few times already, but the Wildhearts need to win fans over, not scare them.

The Wildhearts are experts at their craft. They write excellent music above and beyond nearly anyone else. But that's clearly not enough. What they need is a kickstart. A shot at getting their heads above the water for just long enough to get people to notice them. In order to do that, they have to do some shit that other people are afraid to do. In '93, that meant puking in each others' faces and using shit as album art. Now the bar has risen. Today, that means cutting a girl open. Yeah... it's crazy and it's over the top. I see that too... but I also remember all of the crazy and over-the-top shit that a hundred other bands have done that made all the difference in the world.

You wanna raise the bar?

Why not consider these...
Playing the worlds highest gig (perhaps on a Hercules Transporter)
The first band to play the North/South Pole
Get Branson on board and be the first band to play in space (on his VirginSpace thingie).

BTW I am claiming copyright on these ideas... ha ha ha ha.

Under their main pic in the top left, there's the 'pics' link directly underneath that. Then once you've clicked that you've got the Wildhearts Press link.

Sorry if i sound condescending.

I clicked the link and then pics as you said but it just directed me to a page to sign into myspace.
Any chance of a direct link as I have no interest in signing up to myspace.

Thanks.

Bought Kerrang earlier only for this article and to stop me going nuts on a train journey, they are also in the mags feature for "Top 100 gigs", Donnington fest 94' was something like #77, with a little paragraph about it. Its a stupid idea for a feature because all the kids who buy Kerrang will just be voting for the last gig they went to, 80% of the gigs seemed to be from the last 3-4 years, lots from 2007, so The Wildhearts entry was one of the few from the ninties, them, Nirvana and Foo Fighters are some of the only ones I can think of at the moment...
