Hit the Charts in time for 20th September

Now that downloads count towards getting stuff in the charts, and that there's been some right old tosh get back in as a result over the last few months, can we give the boys a present in time for Shepherds Bush.

If everyone downloaded an Earth vs track in the week before, the Wildies would be back in the charts, in everyone's faces where they belong.

If we all agree on a track and make a concerted effort, I'm sure we could do it.

My vote's for Headfuck!

Thirded. Or whatever the correct phrase is, that just sounds weird.

I'd love to hear someone have to anounce "Headfuck" in the chart countdown.

Not to put the mockers on an otherwise excellent plan too much, but surely if you're aiming to get something back in the charts, you're also aiming to get it played on a certain radio station with a '1' in it (at least once on the chart show anyway)?

I'd therefore suggest something a little more radio friendly, especially bearing in mind that if they're not supplied with a radio edit by the record company, they probably won't knock one up themselves and so won't play it anyway.

For that reason, and that it's one of the finest things Ginger's ever written, I'd be inclined to go with The Miles Away Girl.

As the gig's on a Saturday, do we aim to get it in the chart the Sunday before the gig (14th), or for it to chart the day after the gig (21st)?

Come to think of it. While it's a great plan to commemorate it with an Earth Vs song, would it not be cooler to put something from The WH into the charts? Something the guys will actually make some money off? Hell, if we picked something like Revolution..., there's even a video knocking about for it?

I concur with Ean fully. Plus, I don't really like Headfuck that much.

Any way we could contact the Ginger One or one of his associates and ask if there's any preference? Perhaps an anniversary reissue of one of the singles he owns or something...

Thanks for the positive feedback, and I like the amendments

Let's go for the 14th then, so all do it the week beginning 8th September and lets go with Revolution.

bonza plan, well done. does it have to be itunes or is there somewhere else i can buy an mp3 that will play in windows media player, and still have it count for the charts?

Anything you buy from the genuine download retailers should be chart eligible.

emusic is probably your friend for this.

It's not itunesplus (DRM free) on itunes unfortunately.

but that's a subscription site isn't it? i just want to buy the track alone to be honest, i'm not a big download fan.

Yeah it is, but depending on where you sign up, you can get anywhere between about 20 and 50 free downloads then cancel your subscription before the introductory period expires. You'll get up to five albums for nothing and the band'll still get paid and it'll still count for the chart.

This or this will take you to the 50 downloads offer... Just noticed this offer runs out on 28th August, but if you get it then, your two week offer is still valid until the middle of the week 8th-14th September which is the week we're after anyway.

Or you could use Tesco Digital, But don't tell vickyp...

Good point about the radio edit stuff.

And cheers for the links to the freebie sites.

no, don't because they're a bag of sh*te and they don't answer the phone or reply to your e-mails when something goes wrong. They have the worst customer service since NTL.

I'd love to see the Wildhearts back in the charts where they belong but I won't be downloading a song I already own to be honest. If they went for a physical release and put new b sides on it, I would definitely go for that though.

Anyway, I doubt we'll drum up too much support for this idea. What's the point of scraping the band into the charts at no 38, or worse still, not making the top 40 at all?

I read recently that it only takes 4000 sales in a slow week to reach number 1 in the charts. We should be aiming for top 10, and something like this needs to be planned weeks, maybe months in advance, with new material, magazine promotion, radio play and a tour by the band. That's how we'll get them to chart again.
