To what degree should the board be censored?

Postby mindslide » 19th Dec 08, 19:22

Well so much for a message board being democratic. Just as I was enjoying everyone discussing the topic of Ginger walking off stage at The London gig some numpty decided it was best they should stop talking about it.

What was the reasoning I ask? Don't know who calls the shots but have a word with yourself. If things were getting too personal i may have understood, but it seems that someone is getting well above their station.

By the way, just to put my view across, I didn't go to the London gig but the Oxford one was shit!

Happy Xmas to you all, :D

LOL!

I for one am usually a voluble opponent of heavy handed admin, however I find that this forum isn't too bad!

Forums form their own community. Communities consist of people who although may share passions, have very different thoughts and ideals. I'll just say that just like any community, I think we've all got something to contribute. Whether that is something intelligent, informative, humorous or belligerent; it makes us who we are. Moreover, we are doing it in a place surrounded by relatively like minded people, where it is safe to do so. This forum serves it's purpose admirably, it is a good, well managed forum, with a lot of good members - why else would we all still be here?

The discussion had long since veered away from reviews of the gigs, through Ginger having a shitty night, out the other side into the same argument we've had several times about whether or not it's OK to be overly critical of the band on their own messageboard.

That's not discussion about the band, it's argument about how much people should be allowed to argue. It just goes 'round in circles, nobody ever wins, and it always ends badly.

I don't like to have to point this out, but when you signed up, you agreed to this :-

"You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit."

Thanks Assmask, we try not to be heavyhanded - I've been on so many worse boards. Have you ever been on the Ultimate-Guitar.com board? You can get banned there for posting a topic in the wrong forum - honestly, it's like it's run by Nazis (AICMFP Kris Image). I like to hope that everyone here is an adult, and I think you can count on one hand the number of threads that have been locked for reasons other than topic duplication.

To be fair that's the first topic I've seen locked and it was geing round in circles. I can't fault the Mods (besides Ean 'cos he picks on me and Ilsa and it downright victimisation  )

I tell you what though Bi-Polar people don't have get a slatting on this forum

Well at least my post caused a discussion amongst you all. But getting back to the subject of reading the do's and don'ts, right and wrongs of writing on here - at the end of the day it would be nice to think that know individual could stop anyone from expressing their opinions - no matter how controversial they are.

So the moderator thought it about time to end our discussion - as before i ask why?

Surely Ean already answered that question earlier in this thread?

I love the naivety of your "everyone should be allowed to say anything they like" idealism but it's seriously flawed. What if someone posted nazi propaganda or child porn links? Would that be acceptable under the terms of your freedom of speech?

Over it. I could not agree with you more Shockingcandy. What was i thinking putting a drunken post up? :coat:

Of course there are some things that any sane human could well do without and justifiably want to eradicate from existence, but i just don't the discussion should have been deemed inappropriate or past it's sell by date, as is this one.

Now I've got me coat I think I'd better go outside and just keep walking and...

Yep, think I may have another inebriated go in about eight hours or so. That's unless I pull of course, then I'll have much more eye openings things to be getting on with.

You'll be hearing from me later then. :?
