Is it just me or...

...Did I serve Ritch petrol at work the other day?

Seriously, I looked up from my till, shouted "next please" & was confronted by a bloke wearing grubby combats & trainers that looked older than I do. But he was wearing a t-shirt with a guitar on it, spoke with a brummie accent &, most importantly, looked very much like the man Ritchie, albiet shorter than I expected. If it was him.

I tried the "I'm sure I know you from somewhere..." line but all I got was, "erm... I've been in this shop before..." & a polite shrug. Normally, I'd have just thought it was just an odd resemblance but the filling station in question is near Selby & on the way to the A19 towards York, where (so I heard somewhere or other) Ritch now lives.

Did I meet a legend? Was it just a plumber? Have I just gone stir-crazy from too many Clubcards being thrust in my direction...? Answers on a postcard. :?

i'd love to reassure you that you have indeed met the guy, but having worked in a petrol station myself, i know the mad shit it can do to your mind. i perfected the art of serving people without even looking at them (usually because i was reading or watching the forecourt for robbing bastards driving off without paying), and on several occasions people i knew had to actually call me by name before i looked up and realised who it was.

if they let you have music on while you work, bring a wildhearts album, and next time this possibly-ritch-fella turns up, put that on before he gets in and watch for his reaction...

(incidentally, if you learn to time it right and have the right bass settings on a stereo, you can time "inglorious" so that the huge riff goes off just as someone comes to your counter with a bit of practice. i did this so many times and saw people throw change all over the place in shock!!!)

Well Ritch told me a few weeks back that he is still doing abit of building work, so who knows, you may have served a music legend :D

Touche...

As for the advice from Lord Spoon of Grimbo, this is a Tesco petrol station & if we don't make eye contact, we don't get our full bonus so that wasn't really an option. Neither are we allowed to have music on, which is also a bit rubbish.

However, he did look like his trousers were bearing some signs of building work - dust, paint & so on, so maybe Mcnico is onto something.

I'll keep my eyes peeled... :)

I think it's a very strong chance you did indeed serve Ritch petrol as I believe he lives in the Selby area!
I work just up the road in Escrick and so far, to the best of my knowledge, he's never been in for a meal!! :(
