Has Ginger outgrown The Wildhearts?

Im begining to think maybe he has. Does anyone else think this?

Me and a mate (both fans since Dont be Happy) were talking on the train today and had this coversation.
We agreed that his solo stuff is much better than anything the Wildhearts have released since EN.

We are hoping Chutzpah is an excellent album as we were dissapointed with the last one. Maybe the Wildhearts have gone on too long?

Can I have your views on this as id be interested to see how other Wildhearts/Ginger fans think about this.

I don't think so. I think the wildhearts have just been stuck in a rut since they reformed after EN. Must be destroyed, all the bsides from that era and the self titled were both solid albums but they lacked the risk taking, steps forward each of the previous albums took, they were kinda safe bets, ALTHOUGH I still really like them, alot.

However by the sounds of it they have finally got the balls again to try something new, with both of the reviews so far being of polar opinions yet at the same time they both say it's a new step forward for them, a new sound. That's exactly what the wildhearts used to do and hopefully it's what they have again. I don't want another earth vs, phuq, ffl or EN, I want the NEXT WH record.

Ginger hasn't outgrown the wildies, they just need to catch up a little.

Have seen a few solo gigs recently, I think that Ginger is enjoying the freedom that playing with The Wildhearts doesn't allow.

There is most likely a place for both, however I feel that the reception that Chutzpah gets will go a long way to determining the future of the band.

I'm happy for the WH's to keep playing the same kind of melodic rock/punk stuff forever....if I'm totally honest.

Riffs, catchy choruses...that's why I love them. I nearly cried when I played Endless Nameless for the first time.

It's a 'no' from me as well.

I think there is room for both The Wildhearts and Ginger's solo stuff. New people discovering either for the first time are likely to find it interesting enough to want to go and check out the other as well. It's all good.

I agree with this. I love the variety the solo stuff brings, and if he also throws in some Wildhearts stuff then great. For me it's always been about Ginger and his songwriting rather than the band, which was a pretty amorphous entity at the best of times.

i see what you mean there, but then again, they've seemed like a much more solid unit recently, what with sharing vocals and songwriting duties much more, doing press/interviews etc. as a group, and of course the general lack of drugs.

personally, i'd be happy for the band and ginger's solo stuff to exist side-by-side as they do currently on a permenant basis. i mean we're getting at LEAST one ginger-related release per year at the minute, and that's the way i'd like to see it go on, regardless of whether or not Chutzpah causes them to hit it big again.



having re-read this before posting, i'd like to add that any jokes made on the term "solid unit" would be in very poor taste
