I'm torn. I love The White Stripes, I love Brendan Benson's solo stuff (I'm not normally a singer/songwriter type but he's great)... but the whole isn't greater than the sum of its parts for me. I find them good but not great. I've got both Raconteurs albums and I like them but... that's about it. Saw them live a couple of years ago and it was a bit heavy on the extended jams...

I like the albums a lot. I'll let you know about the rest after I see them at Reading.

i liked that first single they released off their first album, i think it was "steady as she goes," but nothing else they've done has really jumped out at me, and i fucking hate the white stripes (although i do have a video of me singing "fell in love with a girl" with my mate's brother's band :?)

never realised how good that jools holland show is til the other week, i've seen gutter twins and nick cave and the bad seeds in the space of two weeks on that program.
IF THERE'S A SOUND YOU PLAY THAT DOESN'T FIT TODAY,
WHY NOT JUST PLAY THE BASTARD ANYWAY?!

i reckon you can tell which songs were written by jack white and which were written by brendan benson. jack's songs sound like white stripes songs and aren't very good..obviously i'm not a white stripes fan. however brendan's songs are fantastic, he's a great songwriter. like damian i'm not big into singer songwriter types but brendan benson is definitely a cut above, just wish he'd hurry up with a new solo album!

Steady As She Goes is a none-too-subtle homage to Joe Jackson's Is She Really Going Out With Him? Any one else hear it? Still, I like it.

I was just listening to that very track and thought that it was Is She Really Going Out With Him?
