i downloaded their first album and the ep a while back, and i've heard the new single, can't quite decide if i like them or not. i'll probably buy the new album and chance it, as everyone on punknews.org is launching, to quote the great bill hicks, arching ropes of jism over that album (as it's apparently leaked).

Yeah, the new album is brilliant. I was going to see them at the Barfly but then Kerrap stuck them on the cover and now it's sold out!

Oh well, definitely worth picking up The 59 Sound when it's out

Sounds pretty good, but why does all the good stuff from the states have to be so depressing?
I've got this theory that you can guess from the sound whether a US band is East coast or West coast and these guys are so very East coast.

59 Sound is a nice song, actually is it just me or does it sound a bit like Springsteen with a modest Britpunk touch?

Hey, Vicky. It's a current cultural / fad type thing right now. For a while now, this whole style of usually bad depressing type music has been the fashion and rage for young people. Apparently, they like being depressed or they like pretending to be depressed. Supposedly, it makes them cool. Just a teenager thing (which I figure is very different from Britain). The attitudes east to West coast have always been different by personality because of their history. If you think of how much land and different geography we have, you can see why regions produce different sounds. (Hope this doesn't sound too nerdy.) The depressives started with Nirvana. Really. I was there. Nirvana wasn't big because that many people liked them; they were pumped up by marketing and advertizing to make people like them. That's why Kurt Cobain hated what happened to the band. They were a living contradiction to their philosophy and style. Let me know if you want to know more.

i dunno about anyone else, but depressing music doesn't necessarily actually make me any more or less depressed than i might otherwise be. i can be in a great mood, but still enjoy some doomy, depressive-as-fuck stuff.

btw, i posted a review of the 59 sound here: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=26836

for those who can't be arsed to read it, the gist is that I FUCKING LOVE IT.
