It's a long time since I lived there so this might be out of date - I like The Phoenix in the centre whose name I forget (it's where the bridge with windows is nearby). Also, which venue is it? If it's Academy 2 or Bar Academy, the Student Uni bar will do as well.

And avoid the Jabez Clegg at all costs.

People who've actually lived there since 1995 can hopefully give you better info than this!

Tickets say Manchester Academy.

That Jabez Clegg is right outside according to google maps, along with kro.

There's a 'Scream' pub on Oxford Road that you will pass on the way up to the Academy from town.I can't remember what it's called but it's on the right hand side and a 5 minute walk to the venue. 'The Thirsty Scholar' and the other pubs near Oxford Road Station are also worth popping in for a quick 'taste' too. There's also a reasonable juicer on the opposite side of the road and just past Academy near the Subway butty shop.
Get at 'em and get thirsty! :D

The Salisbury is your recommended rock pub.
About 10 mins walk straight up from the venue or 2 mins on the bus.
