Name this tune...

Not a quiz, I've seriously drawn a blank on this one...

I came across this snippet of home video on YouTube with an unmistakeable bit of Wildhearts riffage accompanying it but I don't know what it is. Can anyone help or is this so new even you lot don't know it? I suspect not as I'm a bit slow but anyway, here goes...

LOL Talk about a faux pas.

The name of the song you are looking for is "Song for the Radio"

The band is...

...

...

MCFLY!

Personally I don't give a flying fuck for the stigma associated with, well, any band really. I think that they have written some great songs and that one in particular is absolutely brilliant. Proper rock riffage going on in that tune.

Jason Perry from 'A' has been involved with McFly a lot...a quick google tells me he produced this song, and wikipedia has a member of the band down as writing it, but I wouldn't be suprised if several people were involved in writing, which is usually the way with pop bands, and would expect Jason Perry to be involved. Making Wildhearts similarities more understandable than a lot of people would expect.

my friend tried to get me into mcfly a while ago and sent a few of their songs, i seem to remember jason being in the "composer" box when they came up on media player... and they weren't terrible either...

still, after all that talk of another album when they were on the last WH tour, dude needs to get his ass in gear and bust out another A album! the last one was amazing and then.... nothing*

*not the song, before anyone goes all smartass!
IF THERE'S A SOUND YOU PLAY THAT DOESN'T FIT TODAY,
WHY NOT JUST PLAY THE BASTARD ANYWAY?!

McFly...?!! Fuck me!!!

That little snippet sounded just like the last Wildhearts album - if I'd heard the vocals I'd not have thought so but the instrumentation, production & (having heard the song for the first time just now) the quiet middle-eight bit are all pure Wildhearts. In fact, try singing the end refrain from Thunderfuck along to that bit, you'll see what I mean...

What threw me was the accompanying info on the YouTube clip which said that the video was of some people going to their mate 'Dunk' tour managing The Wildhearts in Leeds. Not having heard a lot of McFly, much less that song in particular I put 2+ 2 together & got The Wildhearts...

I should perhaps change my name to SillyDave.

Or just go into hiding.

On the 'A' subject, I heard Jason Perry produced the solo album by Matt Willis from Busted as well. I seem to remember it got decent reviews from the 'serious' press but didn't shift many copies in the end.

I miss 'A' - they were responsible for some of my finest formative gig moments so I'll always have a soft spot for them.
