Revolving door bands

Postby seventieslord » 13th Jul 07, 21:25

The WIldhearts are a good example of a "Revolving Door" band where there is one long-time founding member who is generally the brains of the band, who has been the one common thread in the lineup for the duration of the band. However, in the Wildhearts' case, new musicians are added with less frequency than old ones being brought back.

Everclear is also completely gutted and rebuilt from the ground up, aside from Art. Megadeth has been a whole new band about three times by now. What are some other examples?

And for discussion, does this take away from the integrity of the band? Does it hint to beating the band name to death when it should be considered solo work or at least a new band name? (in the Wildhearts case, I don't think so, since there is a select circle of WH guitarists, drummers, and bass players that come and go)

As an everclear fan for quite a while I was impressed with their (his?!) new album. I wouldn't have minded Art doing his long talked about solo album but I think that the new everclear isn't remarkably different from the original, although I would be more disappointed to see them live without Greg & Craig.

So that doesn't really solve anything!

It is always a little bit of a downer when a band brings in new members, in my opinion. For example Meat Puppets are releasing a new album but with a new drummer. I have still bought it so in the end I guess it doesn't really matter.

Did the guy from Puddle Of Mudd not sack the entire band just before they got a couple of hits?

The Cure, they seem to lose members then after a few years they come back, the main culprit being guitarist Porl Thompson he quit before they got known then rejoined, quit again then rejoined then quit and now hes back again, the keyboardist did the same just not as many times and bassist Simon Gallup did it aswell, fat Bob has been the only constant member of that band and surely i cant be the only one excited that theres a new double album coming out around october.
Did you just say "Pig Flute"?

The Sisters of Mercy only have Andrew Eldritch left from the original line up (I think), unless you count Doktor Avalanche but being a non-human band member, quitting was never really an option.

My vote goes to L.A. Guns.
Check this out:

Current line-up I
* Phil Lewis - vocals
* Stacey Blades - guitar
* Scott Griffin - bass
* Steve Riley - drums

Current line-up II
* Paul Black - vocals
* Tracii Guns - guitar
* Jeremy Guns - bass
* Chad Stewart - drums

Former members
* Axl Rose
* Nickey "Beat" Alexander
* Michael Jagosz
* Chris Van Dahl
* Ralph Saenz
* Joe Leste (very briefly)
* Jizzy Pearl
* Rob Gardner
* Michael "Bones" Gershima
* Robert Stoddard
* Mick Cripps
* Keff Ratcliffe (touring)
* Brent Muscat (touring)
* Chris Holmes (touring)
* Keri Kelli (touring)
* Ole Beich
* Kelly Nickels
* Johnny Crypt
* Muddy
* Adam Hamilton
* Stefan Adika (touring)
* Chuck Garric (touring)
* Edan Serge Gillen

that´s a fuckin´ joke, innit? I really love(d) the band. But they
seriously blew it... Saw Tracii´s version 2 months ago. Thought they were o.k.
for the first couple of songs and actually got the crowd going a bit. Dunno what happened next but I´ve never seen ANY band kill their momentum as fast as these guys.
The played "Draw The Line" as the first encore. I turned away in disgust.
Phil´s version kicked ass though in ´05

I believe Napalm Death have NO original members from the first album. Does that make them a tribute act ?

How about Amen?

Seemingly either they walk or Casey sacks the entire band between each album... :roll:

The Fall.

There're so many of Mark E. Smith's cast offs that they get their own Wikipedia entry.

I saw a hilarious interview with Mark E. Smith recently in which he had the nerve to complain that interviews had become boring because he's only ever asked about the band's new lineup. :lol:
