Um, yeah, I think that ship has pretty much sailed for me though...

...to play in some crappy bands because they've run out of people who want to play any kind of bass

Wow, really? You can't move for bassists in most places :? . There weren't any when I started, then suddenly the world and its mother (and oddly, its sister. Is there something that particularly attracts girls to the bass? There suddenly seem to be loads of girl bassists ('bout bloody time too :D ), I suppose it's partly down to D'arcy and Melissa Auf Der Maur and Kim Deal and Sean from White Zombie and the girl from The Subways whose name I've forgotten) started playing.

yep I'm the only bass player in the school, well there is 2others but they can't play a note and they've been 'playing' for about 2yrs.

There's only about 15 double bassists in the county but atleast 8 of them are leaving to go to Uni or College, which is good for me because it means I should be able to get into the County Youth Orchestra...which then means I'm on tour to Spain next year 8)
It's probably about a 50/50 thing with boys and girls. Weeelllll there are a few 'guys' that we're not too sure about but still.

Well, I guess you'll look back on it as pretty useful when all that playing's turned you into a kick-ass bassist (assuming you're not already  ).

My teacher/sectionals leader for the Training orchestra is doing the auditions so I've got a bloody good chance! Plus I have a friend in the Youth already so she's gonna throw a hissy fit if I don't get in hehe

and one good thing I just found out about the kids who can't play is that when I go back to school in September, I could teach them in my free lesson's..which means money! £8 per half hour I think.

So where were you then??

Image

We didn't have a bad view actually, cos the stage is a lot bigger than the way it's drawn on the diagram...

Image

Weren't HIM good *stifles snigger, fails* Did you see the mosh pits doing the Hokey-Cokey?

'Tallica were fuckin' excellent though, even if they didn't play all of MOP. :(

What's with the two separate standing crowds in that picture, then? Was the front bit for special fan-club people, or something?

Ok here's my amazing pain skills for ya

I was here for Machine Head and Metallica. Next to a pit that lasted for the whole of Creeping Death.

Image

Both of them were amazing! I got punched a few times though by annoying guys who didn't think girls should be in the standing area...so they went in the pit courtesy of me accidently 'tapping' them.

Mastodon were ok, I don't really know much of their stuff so I stayed back for them. HIM were oh so good  he was drunk as usual, and the sound got mega muffled and echoey (well it was where I was sitting) I gave up at that point and went on the search for food (which didn't end well as I realised I spent all my money on the train tickets!)

So how'd it look from where you were? It looked like you got some pretty good seats!

Yeah they had it at LiveEarth for the special people. I suppose they just left it up for the people who got their first or something.

That'll be the Golden Circle... At some gigs it's a bit for guestlist types to lounge around in so the real fans are miles from the stage. I don't know who was in it, but it was pretty much rammed solid and went apeshit all the way through.

It's only empty in the pic 'cos HIM were on and those who hadn't gone to the bar stayed behind to boo them at every chance. (it's MachineHead in the bottom pic).

Did the insides of the new Wembley remind anyone else of an airport terminal full of metalheads?

There were about five pits in a line to the left and right of you, and at several points it looked like they were going to join up into one huge long oval shaped hole.

It was pretty good, we had binoculars with us so we could check out Lars' receding hairline and Kirk's ridiculously tight \m/ rawk-trousers \m/. Any further round towards the stage wouldn't have been as good unless we were lower down, but we were in a good position for the repeater stacks all round the inside of the roof, and once they'd sorted the sound out, they were fucking LOUD.

We could see into the wings of the stage, so when HIM did one (early?) they all got a hug from their manager, or someone. You could tell they'd noticed it wasn't going their way about halfway through when they stopped waiting for applause between songs.

We only got there near to the end of Mastodon, so didn't get too much of an impression, but (shock horror  ) the supports all had shite sound.

Erm, actually, it might be Mastodon, I can't really tell. The drumkit looks a bit small for MH though... :?
