and there is a book from a while back about the neds the wonderstuff and pop will eat itself - the eightlegged dustbin will eatitself by martin roach.
i haven't heard much neds stuff myself but what i have heard i've liked.
i saw one of carter as a support act for my life story ( another band from that era with some great tunes esp. strumpet and its a girl thing) but i can't remember if it was jimbob or fruitbat - was a weird show but some good ideas. and emf supported terrorvison on one tour ( and the weird thing is more people seem to remember emf with their one maybe two hits than have heard of terrorvision who had loads of hit singles!)

My Life Story - Fave song = Silently Screaming. Top Tune.
As far as E.M.F. being bigger, I suppose 'Unbelievable' was bigger than any Terrorvision song

Wonderstuff, I got the album Hup! on computer at work, and must say am not impressed... Just seemed a bit hollow, mind you, so did New Mods when I first heard 'em so I'll give a couple more listens

stick with it. better still go and see them live - they are doing a couple of festivals and miles hunt and erics knockalls ( the current fiddle player) are touring pretty much constantly as an accoustic show.

another great band from that era were the senseless things.
why do i have to ignore you to get your attention?

I'm going to the Carter Brixton gig.
Last incarnation of Carter I saw was Who's The Daddy at Fibbers in York. Top gig too.
Looking forward to seeing EMF again, a band that never realised their true potential. It's a shame they will only be remembered for 'Unbelievable' as it was one of their worst tracks. I think a guy from Jesus Jones is filling in on bass for the departed Zac Foley.
Jesus Jones, now that was an incredible live band...

I miss all those 'Cartoon' bands that weren't taken all that seriously. There was more to 'em than what the british music press let on. Most of 'em were jumped on from a great height by NME and Melody maker at the time for selling more T-shirt than records, though Nirvana seemed to get away with that crime, even now.
Sensless things, Carter, Sultans, EMF, Kingmaker, PWEI, Wonderstuff, Frank & Walters, Neds, Back to the Planet (!!)... any more??

I'm loving this thread! It's basically all the bands I listened to at school. For me, special mention to Senseless Things and The Wonder Stuff. Stuffies, PWEI and Neds were all from round my way so we enjoyed that immensely, local pride and all. In fact, the guitarist from Neds used to live down the end of my street. Believe I may have mentioned that before but my claims to fame are few so there you go.

Miles from the Wonderstuff used to go out with a mate of mine so I met him a few times and the other week when I was in Birmingham I'd just finished telling the friend I was just that and I looked up and there he was grinning like a fool at me as he recognised me, that was the day i came down with food poisoning to so I reckon he did something to my food as punishment for laughing at the pith helmet he used to wear and still has it hung on his kitchen wall.
Did you just say "Pig Flute"?

PWEI are still one of my favourite bands ever. I remember the first time I saw them at a Phoenix festival (93 I think) and I was blown away. It was just a magnificent racket!!
Go and listen to 'Get The Girl, Kill The Baddies' or 'Karmadrome' right now, you'll be smiling for the rest of the day!
Am I correct in the statement that the Poppies virtually invented sampling as we know it?
While we are dredging up the 90's, anyone remember Sheep On Drugs?, now they were class!

That was my introduction to 'em, loved 'em from that moment on. My first festival too.

Back to the Planet...i wish i could get a hold of some of their stuff but it's almost impossible now.
Managed to download a few from Myspace.

They kind of hung about the whole Levellers scene as well along with little known bands like Tricks Upon Travellers(their fiddler played on a few England World Cp Songs),Radical Dance Faction(who i thought were awful when i heard them)and others like Dreadzone,Chumbawamba and Boo Radleys all had varying degres of success.

Managed to find some mp3's - seeing as they're about as rare as hens teeth, i reckon it should be ok to download it. There's a link on this page to download.
