Glad to see I'm not alone in being utterly unmoved by the whole thing. I didn't know the man, and I don't own any of his albums. It's always sad when someone dies as young as 50, but why would anyone beyond his family (and friends, if such a thing exists) be upset by it?

I see no buggers bitching about not showing sadness over Farah Fawcett, one rule for them one rule for us me thinks. I actually think she was the more talented one out of the two.

God help us if Jeff Goldblume had actually died thursday to like it was reported.

Yeah and it could also mean he didnt do it as well. I was pointing out that Boyle's remarks would be slander if Micheal Jackson was still alive. You seem to have made your mind up about Jackson though, probably knowing very little about the whole thing as well.

Incidentally, I've had funnier trips to the dentist than that Frankie Boyle thing. Normally he can pull off the humour through being outrageously offensive thing, but that was just... well, not funny.

Dunno, empathy maybe? Maybe they loved his music and are sad they will never hear anything new? Maybe they are life-long fans and his music meant a lot to them. Maybe they think he was something of sad figure and are upset he died at only 50.

I don't get why so many people have a problem with those who are upset about it. Sure they shouldn't give you any grief for not being moved by it but why are you bothered about those that are?

I'd be upset about the deaths of plenty of people who I don't know personally. If it was an artist whose music I liked or a favourite comedian, what's wrong with that?

Some of it was funny, but talk about an easy target. Basically Boyle trying to be shocking cos he knows it will upset certain people, it's almost old-hat to make jokes about that sort of thing, he's probably really proud of himself though, thinking he's so controversial.

Nope havent made my mind up at all, I was just saying it was a possibilithy, I love how the public (I genuinly am not aiming this comment on you Scorcher) seem to think that if you go to court and get found not guilty then there is no possible way you could have done what you've been accused of. Its a proven fact that the courts are not 100 percent foolproof, there are a number of cases where someones been found not guilty only for evidence to come to light years later that shows the accused was actually guilty all along. If the Jackson court case is one of them then its only a matter of time now, if he was guilty he was guilty if he wasnt he wasnt, doesnt affect me at all

Now I'm not saying Jackson definatley did or did not do the things he was accused of, all I'm saying is you need to remember there are three sides to what happened, the accused, the accuser and what actually happened.

Well I agree with you on that but when you said "it just meant he was ace at hiding evidence" it sounds like you believe he was guilty.

Boyle clearly refers to him as a child molester, which given he was found not guilty and given when you read about the Jordy Chandler case there's just as much information to suggest the allegations could be false, its a bit out of order.

I know the not guilty verdict doesn't mean for sure he isn't guilty but it does mean in the eyes of the law he's not guilty. A point I would make is just because someone is accussed of something, doesn't mean they did it.

I don't really know what to think about it, there is not any evidence other than one person's word against another. I edge towards thinking/hoping he was innocent.

Just to add more fuel to the fire, I've just read a comment by a guy called Michael Bland who is Soul Asylums drummer and used to play for Prince, and its made me lose a bit of respect for the guy, his comment goes (more or less)

"His death will have a bigger effect on the world than Lennons death!"

Doesn't bother me if people are upset by things like this, but that doesn't mean I can understand why anyone would be upset. Applying logic means it just doesn't stack up in my mind (I'm not gonna go through the reasoning here, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with the child molesting accusations).

I guess as humans we can't detach emotion from logic, I know I can't.

I do remember the Diana nonsense, when 5 days after the event, the news headlines were "Diana: still dead - see pages 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,20...", and the TV news was no different. That whole show struck me as contrived and really pissed me off. I see shades of that here... Maybe I'm just a callous arsehole.

i'll be honest, i'd take any of jacko's songs over most of lennon's. not that i don't like a few lennon songs, but i find most beatles and beatles-related music to be pretty boring. i understand it's hugely influential and that, but it's never really grabbed me. but put some jacko on and i'll be moonwalking (well, trying...) from here to WAY over there!

I think that Bland is probably correct. Without diluting my opinion and straying into Wacko's personal life, there's no doubting that he possessed a unique talent. I personally had little time for his music but can tolerate the likes of Thriller, BAD, Billie Jean. Wacko has significantly more fans and followers than Lennon, but that's just because the Beatles invented pop music so it wasn't so established and such an every day part of life. I feel sorry for the Jackson family and the tens of millions of fans who have lost their idol. R.I.P.

The same family that let him get into this kind of state in the first place, instead of getting him proper psychological help. Nah.

His 'fans' have been called dedicated, but to some that's to a point of violence against anyone who spoke against him. Almost like a cult! (that's supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek)

A lot of people seem to have been fans from a very young age, most probably before they really had a choice of what to listen to. I suppose it's good that it's stuck as they've grown older but there's possibly a high percentage of those who just know no better.

Also he's to blame for all the little wankers like that George Sampson titface :lol:

Also, some of those fans are really, REALLY living in the past. the last time he did anything relevant musically was a long, long time ago. That's when idolising someone becomes a problem - you have to move on at the point when someone is doing nothing you liked them for in the first place.
