Mistaken lyrics thread

Postby weebleboy » 19th Mar 06, 20:38

I remember there was something like this on the group site, but I've got a more recent one.

Dont you hate it when you mis-hear lyrics and then your friends take the piss?

Listening to This is only a Problem on VdC for the first time, I heard "Tears won't clear the scene, and Zorro won't build me a time machine", i was like WTF?! Has Ginger gone mad?! Then I sussed it out and realised that I was the mad one.

When the band was working out Enter Sandman years ago, Dave completely dropped the ball working out the lyrics. "Sleep with one eyed old men" anyone? He still hasn't lived it down after about 8 years.....

Anyone got any other comical mistaken lyrics?

*sings badly* Warm smell of Fajitas
Rising up through the air

Man those Eagles loved theirMexican-based foodstuffs.
Ayo, lesson here, Bey. You come at the king, you best not miss. - Omar

Not particularly misheard, but funny, and winds my girlfriend up a treat

Madonna's Erotica...

Not misheard, but on a similar theme :o)
On the lyric sheet from a pirate 'best of' Jimmy Barnes tape from Indonesia:

From Working Class Man
'blue denim in his veins' became 'blue diamond in his thing'

Well, to drag it slightly back on topic...

There's:-

'Nail me to the pier as the asshole of the year' from Suckerpunch.

'This is alien lake monsters from out, out, out of UFO's' from the lyrics of Sky Babies printed in a Fanzine years ago.

I used to sing loads of wrong words 'til I got hold of the 'official' ones and I've wiped most of 'em from my mind by now. Caffeine Bomb used to be particularly good for dodgy lyrics.

From Metallica's Of Wolf and Man - 'Sheep Shit, Nose to the wind'

And Johnny Nash's old chestnut - 'I can see Keeley now Lorraine has gone'

I thought the Eagles said fajitas too  :D

From 'Lucille' by Kenny Rogers - 'You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, 400 children and a crop in the field.'

From 'Everytime You Go Away' by Paul Young - 'Everytime you go away, you take a piece of meat with you.'

From 'Money For Nothing' by Dire Straits - 'We've got the flintstones microwave ovens.'

I just make the words up to songs as i listen to stuff, that way any song can have any lyric i fancy at the time. I smoke too much weed to remember everything, or even be bothered to find out what the lyric was in the first place. I'll be jumping about singing all sorts of drunken nonsense in rios on friday!

In Metallica's cover of "Die Die my Darling", Hetfield most definitely sings "Don't cry tomatoes baby"...

there was:

'Minnie Mills & Mr Mod compete to win the loser races' in a WiLDHEARTS 'Zine years back (along with the 'Nail Me To The Pier' )

My wife thinks it goes "Makin' Bets on "You're Talkin Dirt With Dave" in 'Dead Flowers (particularly the Gilby Clarke version)
