My equipment or Production?

Right,
From the offset, I DO NOT want this post to be construed as negative.
All i'd really like is your view

My CDS copy of The New Flesh arrived this morning and listening to it seemed to arouse a trend that I hadn't thought much about, but it seems that all of the stuff produced by Jase either turns up the instruments or turns down the vocal to the extent that I can only really make out what's being sung.

Now, I'd really like to think it's my 19 year old cd player/ system, but the only cds that seem to have this quirk are as mentioned, produced by Jase,
ie
World of Filth
Yoni
The Wildhearts
The New Flesh single

Has anyone else noticed this, or do I just have to go and get a new system?

Then again, not being a sound engineer of any sort, could it be the mixing??

Or am I just being a picky bastard???

Not noticed it with World of Filth or The Wildhearts - I really love the production quality on those two. Yoni, I had issues with the mixing, but got used to it eventually. And The New Flesh single.. aieee. 'Unbroken' does have a demo-like sound to it.. still a great track, though.

You could always listen to them on a different stereo and see if there's any difference? ;)

The vocals on the WH could have done with coming up half a notch (on the chorus to New Flesh especially), but I can't say I've noticed it on any of the others - I'll withhold comment on the single, as it's still in the post... ho hum.

Yoni is at least 50% a Tim Smith Production, and is mixed very clean, but that fits the songs on the whole and I don't think the vocals suffer.

Could easily be the mixing. It all depends on what kind of speakers they were listening to the tracks through when they did it (plus, after all those years of 'rawk', they're all probably deaf as posts and pretty much just guessing what it'll sound like. )

I thought the mix on Yoni was fucking awful, whoever was responsible.

Said previously, BLmojo was quite tinny aswell.

I have noticed that on the last few CD's it gets a bit trickier to make out the lead vocal. Howling willie especially, but I put this down to the gravelly vocal style. However I've noticed this quite a bit on The Wildhearts, whereas similar styled fast n heavy songs in the past (nexus icon etc) havent had this problem.
