i'm going to birmingham at some point tmrw with a few quid in tow, so i'm thinking of investing in a few CDs while i'm there, i know where the main HMVs and Virgins etc. are, but does anyone know of any independent CD shops around the city centre and where i could find them?

Virgins, in Birmingham? Wouldn't have thought so mate...

There are loads around the cathedral area.

Try:-

Three Shades Records

Swordfish Records

Tempest Records

Carbon

Or there are 30 odd other ones listed on Yell.com

nice one, thanks a lot mate! i'm living in coventry atm, and there's sod all in the way of record stores (HMV and Virgin are a bit crap here, and there's a used CD stall in the market, but there's nothing there i'm interesting in buying atm), hence the trip to Brum.

well, i've got seven addresses written down, so that should be a decent start. i'm looking for the new A Wilhelm Scream album, and any of the rarer Wildhearts and Therapy? stuff.

wish me luck...

One of the ones by the cathedral used to be pretty good for WH stuff, but I don't remember which one it is and none of the photos on the ads rang any bells. I'm pretty sure it was on the left hand side of one of the streets as you walked downhill from the Cathedral though, so it could've been Three Shades under an old name.

I can't vouch for any of the others though as I've never been to any of 'em.

i found tempest and ended up getting that AWS album i wanted, and "wildhearts strike back" for 9quid which i thought was pretty good. also got "black tape" by the explosion for a fiver in swordfish.

all in all, a pretty worthwhile trip!
