Astoria - Warnings!

Postby DAZ » 23rd Nov 07, 22:18

The Wildhearts are playing the Astoria in December and if anyone is going this may interest you.

Went there last night to watch Serj Tankian (who was really good) and the venue was up to its disorganised best. Doors were supposed to open at 7 but by 8 there was still a big queue snaking around the venue.

Trouble was the main support were on at 7.30 and Serj was finished by about 9.40. Really annoying when promoters advertise a gig with supports but then due to ridiculous curfew times and slow marshalling of people into the venue that you have no chance of watching them.

Meep, not good.. :(

Whilst we're on a warnings theme, earlier this month I went to Manchester Academy 1 and it still hasn't finished with its refurbishment.. Meaning lots of people were a bit pissed off at the lack of cloakroom (and the toilets being in mighty cold portacabins outside.)

Astoria

FYI, the Astoria and all the buildings around it were bought by a developer who had intended to knock everything down to build something else. I see the Astoria's still open; it's old news, but the last I saw, the developer made no announcement to save it. Like I said, been a while back.

The last two times I've been to the Astoria (to see Cardiacs) have both been on Fridays. Because of the G.A.Y. night, the curfew is 10.20 and they do everything in your power to evict you by 10.30. The upcoming Wildhearts gig is also on a Friday so yes, get there early. I reckon Damone will have to play before the doors even open...

Nooo, I like the Astoria. Been to a couple of great gigs there. It's way better than a lot of venues I've been to, anyway.

I quite like the Astoria - apart from the bars being shit as in most venues.
