Sham 69 & The Towers Of London

Postby Arm Squirrel » 3rd May 08, 19:06

Did you know Jimmy Pursey and Mat Sargent from Sham 69 and Snell and Rev have formed a band called Day 21 who are rather good? If you don't believe me scoot over to www.theparanoidsquirrel.com or www.assofrock.com and listen to my latest podcast. I also play a live Hanoi Rocks track recorded at the Marquee October 1984 with guest vocals from Stiv Bators.
Shameless plug I know but what can you do?

i dont want anything to do with anything remotely related to Towers of London. they're possibly the shittest band to come out of this country in the last decade or more (regardless of genre), and they're all annoying cunts whenever they're on telly etc.

i'd sooner have my ears replaced with testicles and have them kicked forcefully by a gorilla in jackboots, than ever listen to anything they've had a hand in making.

There's nowt like being prejudiced about a new band before you've even heard them is there.

well, not quite. i like to have some sort of emotional connection with the music i'm listening to. in the same way that i'd hate a band with racist lyrics, even if the music was good, because i disagree with the sentiment of the lyrics, if someone i didn't like started a band, i wouldn't be able to feel any sort of connection with the music, because no matter how good it is, i know it's written by someone who is a complete and utter arsehole.

i'm not stopping anyone else from checking these guys out, but i personally don't think i'll bother. i've seen/read enough interviews/articles on the Towers of London (most of which were trying to big them up!) to know that none of them are interested in making music for the love of music. they're a bunch of scummy fucking chancers i'd rather avoid.

rant over :)

I know what you mean, there was a kid at school that used to pretend he was my friend, be ok around me when it was one to one, but as soon as there was a crowd of us, he'd do anything he could to undermine me or take the piss.

Saying that, he never learned, even for all the number of times I used to blacken his eyes.

Anyway, he got into Guns n Roses, and because I didn't like him, I couldn't stand them.
Then I left school and moved away, didn't see him for about 5 years and discovered GnR

I have actually seen Day 21 and they are rather good - and absolutely nothing like Towers Of London.

i hate gnr, and i'm not a huge fan of metallica tbh (i like their stuff in passing, but there's other bands that do the same thing much better - testament for example).

Have to say i actually quite liked the Towers of Londons album. Not exactly a classic but had some decent songs on it.I also saw them live supporting the New York Dolls and quite enjoyed it.
They certainly are a bunch of arseholes but i think it's the singer and his brother that were more guilty of that than the 2 in this band.

Had a listen to Day 21 buti'm not too impressed. They sound like the Fish Brothers but they're trying to be serious.

Go here and listen to the Fish Brothers 24 Hr Drinking and compare it to Day 21..you'll know what you prefer

saw towers o london supporting backyard babies last year & if it wasn't for the fact they're all complete wankers & "wanna-be" sex pistol-type attitude holders (sorry lost my words!) they wouldn't be so bad!

to be fair though it was the tourette brothers who were the biggest tossers and their arse licking bass player who would agree an copy every thing they say or did.
