Anyone watch it?

One of the best things on TV at the mo, Frankie Boyle & Hugh Dennis are geniuses!

Not at all matey...

Mark Watson has been a favourite of mine for a short while now, but the others aren't anything special. I mean, their answers are so blatantly pre-conceived, it's so boring and can't believe so many people are raving about this programme!

Don't get me wrong I'm really into my comedy I think this is overated though

Some of the guys on it are brilliant, such as the squeaky shouty guy.

But it's just so contrived, so rehearsed, I can't watch it.

in a recent radio interview, Dara O'Bahrain (as I once read!) said that they are told the topics two days in advance, but that it is then filmed live with no scripts between them.

It's not surprising though, it takes time to craft witty ad-libs. You tend to find that Hugh Dennis' stuff gets better when The Now Show is also running although he does borrow from one show to the other.

I saw an interview with Dara, I think it might have been on Jonathon Ross, where he said that the only parts that are bit contrived are the links where he says who won each round.

They film a 'the winner of that round is...' for both teams after each round (apparently trying to get six stand-ups to smile graciously as they're declared losers is a trial in itself), then when they edit the three or so hours of free-for-all down into half an hour that's broadcastable and doesn't give the lawyers coronarys, they watch it back, decide who they think was funniest and insert the links afterwards.

mock the week is brilliant!

if it is rehearsed how come they wander off topic and often completely forget about the question?
i have seen many of the regulars live ( dara, mark watson, hugh dennis and andy parsons) and they were all very funny. they often crowbar bits of their existing routines into the answers - thats why it sometimes seems rehearsed.

anyway i don't care what you lot think - i love it.

If anyone's interrested, Dara O'Briain's stand up is available to watch on BBC iPlayer, as is the latest episode of Mock The Week.

I'm always disappointed when it starts and he's actually had a shave

I remember a few weeks back, he looked dishevelled, hungover and pissed off and sounded angry and aggressive.. like a drunk outraged tramp!

He was well on form that episode

Only some of it is rehearsed. Having been to watch it filmed, I can tell you that there's no way it's all rehearsed, they riff off each other for about 3 hours, and then the bits they can show are edited together.

Obviously most of the best bits are never shown because they're totally unbroadcastable (Frankie Boyle I'm looking in your direction!)
