Libel?

Postby VladDracii » 9th Oct 08, 17:36

Am not part of any other forum so I thought I'd whack this on here...

...being very bored and cruising Wikipedia I found this passage about the writer of 'two pints of lager' and the new sitcom 'coming of age' which to be perfectly honest are sub-sanded..... to be polite

I'm not disagreeing with what's written but I'm SO sure you can't put this up, can you?

Or is this someone having a laugh?

Nowt wrong with Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, not usually my sort of thing but whenever its on I'm usually laughing my arse off.

A slightly related note, the opening theme to Two Pints, does anyone else think that it sounds like Pete Spiby of Groop Dogdrill doing the vocals?
Did you just say "Pig Flute"?

But it's only libellous if it's not true, so whoever wrote it is pretty safe...

Seriously, although it's out of place in what is supposed to be an objective, fact based article, I think the use of the word 'possibly' edges it into expression of opinion rather than assertion of fact. That there's a 'citation needed' link next to it means that one of the Wiki Editors has already read it and decided it's OK as long as someone provides evidence.

'course, I'm not a lawyer - I never really bothered - so any legal opinion expressed herein should probably be taken with a pinch of salt (This disclaimer for instance...).

you know anyone can edit wikipedia right? i once changed the entry about my old secondary school so that my mate was in the "famous ex-pupils" bit as a renowned researcher of inter-species mating between humans and pandas. it took them sixth months before it was removed.

Well of course I know that, I'd just have thought for the massive institution Wikipedia has become, somebody may have proof read it and if the were professional enough, clearly discredited and removed it as being it's clearly subjective.

But I dunno just didn't know you could really put opinions on....

I mean you couldn't just write

"The Wildhearts are a rock group from Newcastle upon Tyne, England. They are defently the greatest band in the UK, indeed the world, and have never so much as written a bad song."

Now if someone were to write that could that be kept up? Seems ridiculus to put such a thing, ever though most of us would agree...

Well, one could argue that somebody has to be the worst writer on television, so it's entirely possible that it could be him, one would just need some evidence to back it up.

The DVD of series one of Coming Of Age should do nicely.

I always had a thought it was Tony Wright of Terrovision, but now you've mentioned it, it does sound like Pete too :?

Well, as of 21:42 GMT, this has been added to the end of the first paragraph of the Wildhearts' page. Let's see how long it lasts... :)

Been knocking around since May, apparently. Check out the list of stuff that's disputed. Most of it's true, but I don't know that there's any evidence knocking about for it?

Slightly off-topic (but since when has that ever been a problem round here?), but while we're talking about Wikipedia, this a perfect time to plug this:

Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps should have been banned from ever being shown on television, it's basically a charva's guide to life with a curiously aluring female, not the blond or her off of Hollytwats, if i ever found myself knowing her name i'd die of shitribs or something equally made up.
