Jason Newsted to perform with Metallica again

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has confirmed that the band’s former bassist Jason Newsted will rejoin Metallica on stage for the first time since he quit in 2000 at next Saturday’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Hammett confirmed: “Jason Newsted will be there, and he will be playing with us at one point. We went as a band when Black Sabbath was being inducted, and at that time Blondie was also being inducted that night and there was so many politics and so much drama that, you know, we collectively said to each other, ‘We don’t want any of that,’ because it kind of, it puts a really bad, sour note on the whole celebration itself.”

Metallica recently announced their new single will feature b-sides from recent UK shows, while it has also been announced that Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be inducting the band into the Rock N’ Roll hall Of Fame.

NEWSTED ON METALLICA REUNION

As previously reported, Metallica have said that former bassist Jason Newsted will appear with the band for the first time since his acrimonious departure in 2001 when they play at their induction to the US Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame next month. Now Newsted has been talking about it too.

Newsted told Rolling Stone: "I talked to Lars, and it's all good. I was happy to hear from him. I hadn't talked to him for a long time, so it was nice to hear his voice. It was just absolutely positive. It was like, there we were, getting ready to get a beer some place. And Lars is ready to rock. He sounded like a kid again talking about the induction, and I felt pretty much like that, too. Getting fired up to rock after that many years... it's pretty special".

Jason's been seriously injured for a while (An amp stack fell on him and he tore his rotator cuff). He's not even touring with Voivod, despite playing on the album. I see this as a bit of a one-off.

I think that's all it's been planned as.

It's understandable that they're trying to do something and keep it civil. I don't know if you've ever seen the Blondie footage (it's on the Blondie documentary that shows up now and again on BBC4), it was quite embarrassing that they took the argument out onto the stage with them during the presentation.

Yeah, the interview I read with Lars, it was that Blondie incident that prompted them to make the move. Fair play...

I wonder if they'll invite Dave Mustaine along too?!
or even Ron McGovney (admittedly I had to check Wikipedia for that one)

Duelling bass guitars on Orion? Apparently Cliff Burton's dad is going to be there, as is Ron McGovney (original bass player on the demos for Kill Em All).

Does anyone have a link to the Blondie incident? I tried looking around; couldn't find anything.
