Ginger/Paul Gilbert - Live in Japan

Postby godofhaircare » 9th Jul 07, 14:26

Hey,

I was recently listening to this with a mate of mine and he asked me who wrote the song "No Matter What" as featured on the recording.

Having no clue and having tried to search the net I couldn't find the answer.

So if any of you fine people out there have any idea I'd be grateful to know

Cheers

Check out a band called Badfinger. They had a pretty big hit by that name that was recently covered by Def Leppard and earlier by Lillian Axe. Just a hunch though, since I've never heard the performance you're talking about.

And was also covered by the excellent but always overlooked Jellyfish

It's a Badfinger song. They also did 'Come and Get It', which I have vague memories of seeing Ginger cover at some point, but I may have dreamt that.

The Knack also covered it at one point. It's on a Badfinger tribute album, & it's also on their "Re-Zoom" release as a bonus track.

I actually prefer their version - it's punchier.

Check out bootlegs of the Wildhearts '96 Astoria christmas show (scroll down to just before 1997) too, to hear it with Jef on lead vocals. :D

And it was covered by A as well. it's a really good song, but I never understood why it's THAT popular. When it comes to power pop gems, I'd have prefered covering September Gurls by Big Star.

Or 'When My Baby's Beside Me'? That'd be fun to do. The name of the 'No Matter What' writer is Peter Ham and Jellyfish's version trumps them all!
