Will this album vanish into obscurity?

Postby inglorious01 » 1st Jun 07, 15:54

Hey.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows whats going to happen with the current album? Is it going to be one low key single release that doesn't get anywhere like with Ginger's solo stuff, or are they going to release several singles, tour loads and really work at breaking this album into the big time?

I read on another thread on here that Ginger is planning another solo release, another Wildhearts album for next year and maybe even an SG5 album. Does anyone think he does too much sometimes and that he should maybe stick to getting the most out of one piece of work at a time from a commercial perspective?

I think keeping busy is his Therapy, keeps him occupied and away from temptation. And as long as what he releases is consistently good (which it is) Im not moaning.

i was thinking the same thing recently also CJ's album is coming out very soon now, I assume he will tour for that. So that could cause problems if the wildies were to tour in the near future

Well the next single will be less low-key than Yeah Yeah Yeah since it seems pretty certain we'll see the video for it on uk tv. Scott said they might do Revolution as a follow up single. Oh, and the people at GFX media who seem to be doing lots of Wildhearts filming stuff said the other day in a myspace blog they'd been asked to film something top secret in autumn for the Wildhearts, so that could be another video, or something for the DVD or something new altogether...
I reckon the next album will be one that they try to promote more as they will probably be able to have a video single ready for the albums release, the festival promoters wont be able to complain they havent been reformed long enough to give them bookings and its sounds like they plan to branch out more into Europe and get the American shows done by then too...

I don't think this album's going to vanish any time soon. It's a grower for sure, and I'm still enjoying it more each time I listen to it. I met CJ at the Purple Turtle in Camden last weekend and he was of much the same opinion - he said the band are all getting on really well these days and was very optimistic about the future of the Wildhearts. He said he thought the band may well have another five or six albums in them...

Maybe the best is yet to come?

I gotta agree with Inglorious01, the band should hammer the sh*t out of this record before releasing other stuff. It's a blinder of a cd but i fear they're just not getting enough exposure, i mean, there's been ripples of interest in the general media (teletext, the sun, Rock Sound etc.), the boys should be capitilising on this and start creating the waves we all know they deserve!

On a positive note, i'm so chuffed the band are on such good form - the new cd is the best i've heard from them in years.

Oh, and another thing: anyone else struggling to find the new album in the shops?? I've been to both my local Virgin and HMV and not only is the new album nowhere to be seen but there's none of the older releases either!

I only ever seen new WH cd once in my local HMV. They only had one copy. HMV and Virgin so called Mega Stores. Pathetic.

i totally agree with piedude

this album's (and its subsequent tour's) 'business' purpose is probably based around re-gaining reputation. they have mulled around just under the surface for the last few years and were quite cliched in some respects - for me i just didnt like much they were releasing till now - but from the mind of a distibutor or big promotor, they werent so much of a 'hot ticket' - whereas this album is more like a statement of 'we're back and vital to your ears again' - which IS paying off for them.
this album will gain more and more fans as time goes on but what they'll do is (probably) release another awesome album with this line up (to cement the line up and their commitment to all the promotors and labels etc) which will be timed perfectly to get them onto festivals (and not 2nd stage, the main stage) and have enough backing to be able to put out singles and videos with wider distibution and media coverage to coincide with the tours, album etc

or they could just split up again
Music's all that'll ever get through

I was hoping to see a lot of promotional activity surrounding this album. It will be a crime if it vanishes without trace.

Biffy Clyro have worked hard constantly for 10 years and now they are reaping the rewards. They've played gigs up and down the country and really got the best out of each album they've released.

It seems to me, and I include Gingers solo albums in this, release three absolute classic albums, half heartedly release one single, then move on to the next project. Seems a waste to me. I never begrudge more releases of course. I feel sorry for anyone outside of our online community that gains no exposure to this material whatsoever; ie the vast majority of people.

This album certainly has the potential to be a slow burner, but that's not much good unless you can actually buy it.

Here in York both HMV and Virgin bought in fair sized stocks at release, probably a dozen copies each, but they've disappeared and don't seem to be getting restocked. So there can be 3 reasons for this:

1. HMV & Virgin are bone idle and know sod all about music, therefore won't be restocking it as it doesn't say "Razorlight" on it.

2. Round Records are having severe distribution problems or underestimated the size of initial pressing needed.

3. It's being deliberately withheld to build up a little buzz around it, then being relaunched just after the single release, with the aim of bouncing it back into the charts.

I'd like to think it's #3 and there's some strategy behind it, but I can't help suspecting it's #1.

God, I hope not!
I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'm still hoping for a decent US tour!

Wildhearts / Ginger releases prob sell a pretty consistent amount therefore hmv / virgin know roughly how many they're going to sell and order accordingly, with no single / promo / tour after release they're not going to restock as they won't see anything that's going to generate extra sales.
