London gig

Postby Dark Lord of Barnet » 22nd Dec 07, 04:05

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen the band play so long - top value for money. I wasn't too sure about the actual running order of the setlist, but plenty of my favourites were in there, along with a load of stuff from the latest abum this time. Ginger seemed happy and on good form.

I thought Wolfsbane were fantastic - never thought I'd ever get to see them again, and six months ago who would have believed they would be on tour with the Wildhearts?!!!

Great to meet a few of you as usual - afraid I missed one of two of the usual suspects.

What a gig!!

Destroy All Monsters, OCD, Headfuck and Love U til I Don't. Some of my favourite tunes all played live. :D Ginger seemed happy as Larry and they all wore their pants over their trousers. Beautiful. I've seen the 'hearts many times over the years and this was one of the best.

What a great gig that was... after the high drama in the queue when we *almost* didn't get in because we don't possess any photo ID for Stephen and were at the mercy of the venue manager, all went...very right :D

The sound seemed way better than at Wolves, the mood was great, Wolfsbane were fantastic (Howling Mad Shitheads never die, we just creak more the day after a gig these days), and The Wildhearts were on great form.

Before Geordie, a large flight case was wheeled out on stage, containing Dunc-In-A-Box, dressed only in his stripy pants, to hand Ginger the Stylophone. Classic, but ever-so-slightly disturbing :?

i thought the band played well but i didnt like the order of the songs.
the gig had no flow - too much starting and stopping.
i saw ginger in the wings before the gig and for some reason he didnt look to happy - when he came on stage he actuallly said that before the show he felt he couldnt be bothered to play and i think the bands performance showed that for the 1st few songs.

still - love u till i dont stole the show for me - its my fav wildhearts song

merry xmas.

Thought it was a better show than Wolves, as far as I can recall the main differences were they played Nita Nitro, Love U Til I Don't and OCD and didn't play Rooting, Zomboid or the WH medley much...but I can am willing to stand corrected :D

The band seemed happier than Wolves but yeah strange comment from Ginger at the start about not being bothered, still they seemed to get into it, much better atmosphere than Wolves.

I was down in the pit with my very tall shirtless mate, got smashed in the mouth at the start but recovered

Was quite wasted by the end, hey ho it's Christmas!

Ginger was saying in Glasgow how much he hates singing Nita Nitro..in his words "From a song writers persepective it's fuckin basic in the worst way.Be honest..it is isn't it. so from now on we'll play it but i'm not singing it"

Fab Night, Fab Gig - I had a blast! not much more to say than that really  was good to see all the lovely (okay i may be stretching the use of the word :P ) listies that i only seem to see a couple of times a year! (one of these days, we'll have to have a meet up that's not a gig!)

Wolfsbane were ace, got to meet Blaze in one of the bars - and he's just as mental in real life as he is on the stage - cool 8)

tons of photo's to go through, but i thought this one needed posting straight away.....

Even the 4 mile walk home cause we missed the picadilly line tube back, and decided there'd be a taxi somewhere at the end of the northern line didn't put a dent in the evening!

...and to the right we have Mike and Darren doing their best impression of half of Mount Rushmore, while Jason shows off his black eye and I try unsuccessfully to hide behind Stephen...

Good to see I'm not the only one that had a good night out.

Can't say I am too impressed with the new Intrepid Fox... if you're going to have extremely loud music, it would be preferable if it wasn't so distorted... it would be even more preferable to not have it so loud, so that your customers don't have to shout at each other... was glad to get to the Astoria.

Damone - I love the album, was definitely one of my favourites last year. Live, they were good, but not great. The shockingly bad mix for the first three songs did not help and I was surprised how weak Noelle's voice sounded... she needs to quit smoking soon or there'll be no voice left at all. Enjoyable, but not as much fun as...

Wolfsbane - much fun... good to hear the old songs again. How come Jeff still looks so young? Blaze's singing voice was not great though. I can see both sides of the arguement for them doing it again, but think they probably will.

None of this could compare to what followed. This was the first Wildhearts gig since the reformation that I felt was good. I've certainly enjoyed the others, but somehow this was different. OK, they still fuck about way too much when they could be playing more songs. I could be picky about the choice of songs, but I guess we all could. I felt happy at the end, which can only be a good thing.

Good to catch up with so many people again.

And I think CJ threw them out into the crowd afterwards - I pity anyone they may have landed on!

Have to agree with that. Also, they could have got an extra song or two in.

I saw him in the wings watching about half of Wolfsbane's set - would you want to go onstage and follow that set?

Yes, I felt those things too, but overall it was great! The band seemed fired up and energetic - like they really do have a new lease of life. Ginger also observed that there seemed to be noticablely more people there than last time the band played in London - although of course the Astoria is a bigger venue. He seemed very concious that there were plenty of newer fans present seeing the band for the first time as well as us 'old school' types - but there was plenty in the set to keep both old and new fans satisfied so I'm sure everyone went home happy. :D Hope we don't have to wait another year before the next one, but I expect we will...
