Sorry & The Sinatras, Loyalties, Eureka Machines

Postby lob » 18th Aug 08, 17:59

Islington Bar Academy 20th August.

Anyone else going? (Damian what about you?)
Any recomendations for beer/food before the gig
Any idea what time the EM's hit the stage

Oh and a little warning to anyone else going - check out the buses as there might just be tube problems

I would have loved to have done, but a week with two festivals and a funeral makes it rather impractical. Which is ironic, because I live in Bristol, and the funeral means I will actually be in London that night...

i'm going! there's a wetherspoons in the mall that the bar academy is situated, if you are a fan of cheapness, but there's nowhere decent that i know of close to the venue. make sure you go to the upstairs entrance for the bar academy, and not the downstairs entrance for the main academy.

here's hoping the tube strike gets called off at the last minute!

Yep, I'll be there.
Wetherspoons is both very close and cheap, but if you have spare time and want better food, the main road (Upper Street) in Islington has more cafes and restaurants than you can poke a stick at.

I'm going, but I live in Finsbury Park - be rude not to ;)

I'd expect EM on around 7.30 - doors are at 7pm IIRC.

Times for tonight:
Doors Open: 7.00pm
Eureka Machines onstage: 8.00pm - 8.30pm
Loyalties onstage: 9.00 - 9.30pm
Sorry and The Sinatras onstage: 10.00pm
Curfew: 11.00pm

There is a really great (and also pretty cheap & quick) Mexican restaurant on upper street...I think it's called Mucho Mas.

Tube strike has been called off so shouldn't be a problem getting there! :D

Thanks everyone.

Looks like the Wetherspoons for me cheap and er er well cheap with the chance of a reasonable pint (unlike any Carling venue)

So how about a review then Percy?

A review? Er...They rocked!

Well, Superreal didn't play. I heard from someone that they split up 2 days ago though. There was a different support band, but I didn't catch who they were.

Eureka Machines were awesome. I'd not seen them as a full band before, and they were really tight and they all sounded in great voice, especially Chris who is ill.

SATS probably played for about 45 mins or so. They were just what I expected and wanted to be honest - very loose, energetic and fun! Scott was very charismatic and bouncy, Lenny bashed the crap out of his kit, Rags was lost in it all and Dave Cherrykick fitted in perfectly. It was great to see him on stage again actually.

There was some merch there - Eureka Machines had a shirt, cd and badges available, and there was a SATS shirt too. The shirts were £10 each.

Both Scott and Dave said how well the recording had gone, and Rags said that the album should be released in November, and that they're hoping to tour again when the album is released.

Yup can confirm that the boys done good. Extremely tight and together. I too took along an EM virgin he made one interesting comment "I like them but think they are using harmonies so much because the lead singer is unsure of himself as a front man, he shouldn't be - he is fucking good". First time I had seen The Loyalties in full on mode and they were great too - loose where the EM's were tight but that was no bad thing, their brand of rabble rousing punked up rock needs ragged edges. With Sorry and the Sinatra's it was back to tight again - tight and incredibly loud. Scott was very happy and I think he told us why but his accent is so impenetrable he could have been telling us the rules of basketball.

Great night though and if people out there still aren't convinced - go and see these bands on their various tours/appearances, they could all hold down a headline position in any right minded world.
