got mine last Thursday so have been Digesting

the Musics fantastic cant find fault in any of the recording
( well apart from the Chorus to "the sweetest song" but its a tough melody! )

as for the rest
Ginger and the boys are all very funny
But Tims captions aren't funny in my opinion
its that kind of Humour of "oooooooo look how wacky I am"
which isnt really humour to me, its just someone sticking random words trogether

Got mine on Wednesday, and bloody good it is too. I've watched it every day since.
I wanted to get up and jump around with a bunch of like minded fans whilst watching it.

Very, very good work by all involved. Well done Tim!

I love it when CJ tells us about how the band was formed.

Also Ginger's solos are fuckin great.

Is it just me or are the vocals waaay off on Slaughtered Authors? It's a shame 'cos the instruments are SPOT on - couldn't be better!

Love the DVD though - the Destroy All Monsters "making of" was really cool to see as well.

Ginger's lone vocals on the verses definitely sound weird, yeah. I'm not sure if it's normally meant to have backing vox over it*, or if his voice is just weak, but it does sound distinctly 'off'.

I can't find fault with the rest of the performances though - as far as I can tell they hit everything else damn-near note perfect.

I like also how the close-up style of the recording puts more emphasis (deliberately or otherwise) on the band's frequent use of 3-part harmony. I mean, obviously they do all this live as well, but in a film that goes between shots of each band member it just seems more noticeable. I just remember watching it over the weekend with a friend and finding both of us commenting on how good their vocals always are. It's almost hard to believe that the 4 blokes on screen are making the music you're hearing, at that exact moment.

It's also fun on certain songs to try to guess who's taking what harmony (harder than it sounds, kids!).

Regarding Tim Smith's captions, I see a few people have put it down to not 'getting' his humour, which isn't really the point. I would have thought a decent band doc would be more about letting the bands personalities shine through** rather than the director trying to stamp his own idiosyncratic personality all over it.

*I don't have the song to hand, but memory is poking me in the back of the head and telling me that the album version does use multitracked vocals on the verses. Somebody correct/praise me!

**Not that I'm claiming the film fails to get across a sense of the band's shenanigans. Ginger's idiotic facts had me laughing quite hard, as did his frankly terrible crab joke. .

Kind of - I think when the chorus and the harmonys kick in, it's a bit more noticeable. Just sounds oh-so-slightly out of tune. Not a criticism though, I love the DVD!

Zavvi's flagship store in Belfast won't be stocking it at all - I brought 7 mates in with me, all of us asking for it, deputy manager or someone said it still won't be ordered into Zavvi. Tne bastards!

HMV in Belfast are getting 6 copies in. Wez and the other Belfast lad have probably got their copies already, I'll be getting mine this saturday.
