Finally got my copy of WH07...

Postby nuno75 » 19th Jul 07, 04:47

... since I'm a poor bastard I had to wait 'til I had some extra pennies to rub together.

Anyway, I went all out and bought the Japanese version, and I noticed the packaging is weird. Instead of the standard jewel case, it's sort of a cardboard-glued-to-plastic kind of thing... and that the booklets, the lyrics book and the photos book, don't have anywhere to be mounted in the case itself. They just kind of sit in there loose.

It's not a complaint... I was just wondering if this was the standard for the Japanese version and if so... is it also what I can expect when I get my copy of the UK edition?

It's called a "digi pack". The Jap version has better quality card, but for some reason, the booklet slot aint there. UK version has the slot.....but not "Oh Bonita"!

Cool. I was just making sure I didn't have some half-ass bootleg copy... or on the other side of the coin, some ultra-rare super deluxe edition.

Anyway... it's got a snazzy little plastic sleeve that everything goes in nice and neat, and I'll be picking up the UK edition also eventually.

I wasn't a fan of the packaging either. It would be way too easy to lose the booklets and OBI strip.

I actually wrecked my first copy of this album. I dropped it on the pavement outside of my car and chipped off a piece of the plastic tray. Then a few weeks later one corner of it got soaked with hot chocolate while it was sitting in my console - I guess the console was soaked from spillage when the lady and I snuck some hot cocoa into the drive-in movie.

So I gave it to my neighbour and ordered another copy... not in that order of course! My next door neighbour is a Quireboys fan so naturally when I heard this I began to tout the Wildhearts. However, when he heard the new release he seemed disappointed, he thought it was a bit too "metal" for his taste... I might ask for it back to give to someone else more appreciative.

Anyway, the reason I am writing this is because I actually made a sleeve for my CD. I scanned the covers and aligned them on the page in such a way that I could print it out as one piece, fold it up, and glue two edges together, much like how real slipcases are aligned. I took the printout to a copy centre and had them copy it to some nice cardstock paper. it's unique in that it opens at the top instead of the left and/or right. The very next day when taking it to work, my water bottle leaked and practically destroyed the sleeve, but it did its job because the digipack inside is still pristine. After the sleeve dried, I decided it was better than not using one at all, so I kept using it. It has really come in handy. Protects everything, and makes sure the inserts don't fall out.

Ever thought about just leaving the digipack on a safe shelf somewhere, and having the CD in a bog-standard plastic CD case instead? ;)

My CD is fine in the packaging it has, since I never actually listen to CD's anymore. I opened it and ripped it to MP3, loaded up the iPod and then put it all back together and put it in a special spot where I'm keeping all of my Wildhearts discs. I've already ruined two copies of Earth Vs., and one copy each of PHUQ and Fishing For Luckies (all yet to be replaced). So I've decided to live off of my MP3's and store the hard copies, which I will gradually be replacing the ruined ones.

I just keep things in CD wallets & file the boxes neatly away in the loft. Which was working fine until I realised that I now have far more CDs than I do wallet space & have resorted to using those CDR spindle thingies which inevitably result in scratches, albeit perfectly circular ones.

PS. My 14 year search for the Caffeine Bomb single finally ended today. It was a bit scratched & the digipack was quite scuffed. Still, I'VE FUCKING GOT CAFFEINE BOMB!!! :D

14 years?!

I dont even live in the UK and I found one quite easily.
Oh, I had to pay through the nose, but I got it damnit!
I've had great luck with

But only after I've exhausted all other resources because they're expensive as fuck.

Yeah, eil sucks. I think they buy out everything rare until they are the only ones that have said rare item, then they are the only place you can find it, and they gouge you for it and put the next one up for sale right away.... wish i thought of it, actually.

Er, am I the only person here who just takes a CD out of its case, puts it into the CD player, listens to it and returns it to its case. All this without every setting it on fire, spilling acid on it or shattering it into a million pieces!

I must just be old fashioned :D
