An idea of sorts

Postby Sarc » 19th Mar 08, 14:49

All the talk about The Works and the b-sides that are or arent on it has given me an idea that I thought I may put forward.

Now it is a bit of a far fetched one I admit when really given some thought but those of us who used to be fullyfledged Listees when it was still in it's infancy will remember the F.T.B.O* fund for Damo and I thought that was a bit far fetched but we managed it and this is where a similar idea comes into play.

How's about if someone was to set up a fund and we all chipped in a couple of quid here or there and see if we could raise enough cash to buy the rights to the East/West era b-sides and then hand them over to Ginge so the b-sides album that everyone truly wants to see can come to fruition and be put out on Round Records.

I know most of us have them and the idea really would be for the completists in all of us but if they where to charge 9.99 or round abouts for the album those of us who chipped in could have their share knocked off the final asking price, obviously not all of it as the label would still have to pay out to get the disc and artwork printed and its only fair they make some money from it finally as Ginger wrote those songs years ago and never really saw any money from them.

Infact depending on how well this idea is recieved I may even email the fella meself and ask what he thinks?

WIth it being 15 years since Earth vs came out I think the b-sides album it would be the perfect companion for it even if they're not packaged together.

How much do you think East/West wants? I'll pitch in, but we all need to know what it's gonna take. We need to nominate a negotiator to nail down a price. Who wants to contact Edgar Bronfman? Monica?

are we talking hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands?

might it be a touch out of reach? has ginge ever tried to buy the rights to these songs back?

Thats what I'm trying to find out at the moment, as I said in the first post its a tad far fetched but then most of the ideas that seem to sweep the world tend to be far fetched at first besides we can do nowt but try, I imagine it'll be in the thousands so we will have a far way to go but I cant see the point of them having the rights and doing sod all with them when Ginge could have them himself and do whatever he pleases with them.
If it ever happened the only thing we'd have to be wary of is if they realised how in demand an album like that would be cuz then the price would rocket like a bitch.

Or just had another idea do something similiar to what Cracker did when they could get the rights to their own songs and found out Virgin where releasing a best of without their consent re-record the fuckers and alter them slightly so you cant audibly tell the difference and put that cd out instead

Is a good idea, and I'd be happy to bung in a few quid, so will have to see how much it'd cost

OR... if this idea does take-off but we dont quite manage to raise the amount needed how about approaching ginger wi what we got & see if he can match it & put to with ours to then go on to eastwest to buy the rights?? ...t'is worth a try? :?

...& even if he cant match it im sure mr. HWC could lend a hand... or ginger could just write a few more songs & release another solo album for us all to buy!!

if he really wanted them why hasn't he purchased them himself? or has he tried? was it to expensive?

are you going to bring ginge in on this?

its a cool idea and i think most people on this board will contribute but will that be enough?

i'm not dissing your idea sarc just looking at the bigger picture.

maybe you could e mail ginge see wot he thinks.

im pretty sure he wouldnt be pissed off wi us trying to do this for him... but i reckon you should put forward the question of him also putting in what we haven't got... if we don't get all the money needed that is!
