I felt it when the pits were about to join up! I didn't know there was that many though! It was very squishy at that point. I got an armpit in my face that smelt of fish and chips(and not nice fish and chips at that!) *shudders* That's mainly when I kept getting shouted at and punched,

Yeah the supports definitely had shocking sound! Machine Head didn't sound too bad to me because I was in the crowd so you kinda felt it instead of hearing it, but they were all pretty mushed.

Hey, the fish was quite nice... Steer clear of the chips though, kind of like KFC fries: Yeurk. And for some strange reason they don't do 'just' chips :?

Yep, there were a couple of big ones at each end and then smaller ones between them and only a couple of metres between them sometimes.

That's pretty much run of the mill for support bands, although I have to say Metallica are one of the worst I've seen for it. It was the same at Milton Keynes, we sat through Diamond Head, The Al-fuckin-mighty and Megadeth thinking the place had shite acoustics then BAM Metallica opened up and nearly tore our faces off with every crystal-clear note.

Tsk, you weren't in the pit?

And ooo, golden circle. I mildly remember seeing the Porridgey/Foos at Manchester GMEX and they had one of those.. for some reason I ended up in the front bit. Didn't seem to be reserved for corporate types in that instance, 'cos there was a mighty fine amount of moshing going on.

Alas no. Unless you're in Metclub, you pretty much had no chance for standing tickets. Plus, my mate took ages to get back to me whether he wanted to come, so I was a bit late getting tickets. :?

They had one at Live 8 too and, in a rare moment of not being a useless arse, Chris Martin had a whinge about it being full of the Great and the Good, with picnics and champagne, on live telly. Apparently they haven't taken the hint yet...

Megadeth, Diamond Head, and the ALmighty are not adequate support for Metallica?

the golden circle has been going on at big gigs for years. normally you get the chance to buy tickets for it via a bands website before general tickets go on sale. you might (but not always ) have to be a fanclub member.
bon jovi, u2 etc have had them at their gigs over the last few years. ( i certainly remember it at hyde park for bon jovi )
why do i have to ignore you to get your attention?

Erm, no... I was just pointing out that they had shite sound. A problem that mysteriously vanished when Metallica came on.

Oh, when I said 'sat through', it was just the logistics of the venue. Milton Keynes Bowl is an amphitheatre with grass banks around it, if you're not standing on the floor, it's really too steep (ask the guys who were at G'n'R the week before who turned it into a pretty impressive mudslide) to stand up all day comfortably (oh, and it was one of the hottest days of the summer too, hence lots of laying around feeling lazy)

Yes, but over the last few years it's increasingly become a place for the guestlisters to hang out in comfort with the best view. Beats me really, you'd have thought bands would hate the idea of trying to connect with a crowd that's about a hundred yards away...

Brilliant stuff........brutal as ever!

I nearly went to that gig (Metallica @ MK Bowl 93'), however, Guns n' Roses were playing the same venue the weekend before, I could only go to one of the gigs (I was only 13) and had to choose which one, I chose Guns n' Roses. It's a shame as I would of loved to have seen The Almighty around that era'.

It was a pretty damn fine day out! :D

And who remembers the PA being shit for Diamond Head, The Almighty and Megadeth, then all of a sudden, when Metallica came on stage, it was perfect????

We sat on the grass for D.H, The Almighty and Megadeth after we'd had a walk round the bowl to see what was about, and after my mate jumped into the shot (wearing a bloody s*nderland shirt :x ) behind Vanessa Warwick who was reporting for MTV, moved down to the front for Metallica though, and I can confirm that the bank is quite steep!!

My mate decided it was a pharoah's beard not a taliban beard

and nope I wasn't in the pit, was at the edge of it but I have an arthiritis type thing in my knee's(That makes me sound old!!) so they give out if I go into anything like that, Tis not pretty when that happens!

The bowl always has bad sound for the supports, every time my friends have been they say it was total crap until the headliners came on. ThePitz isn't too bad, I sit right by the amps in there(usually on the stage) so it always sounds alright, I suppose it's because it's a small venue though.

I'm in the Metclub but it didn't mention anything about the Golden circle tickets when I got mine. Must have been for the mega VIP's and other people. It looked so much fun though!!!
