Wildhearts sound-a-likes

Postby roachy1985 » 30th Mar 07, 14:04

this band from the uk added me on myspace the other day. i thought they had kind of a wildheartsy kinda feel about them. I especially liked their song 'know your product'.

on the first song their singer sounds a bit like jon poole does on the god damn whores stuff.

the myspace address for anyone who's interested is www.myspace.com/pariahonfire

Well...if anyone has heard The Replacements they sound a lot like The Wildhearts.....or rather The Wildhearts sound like The Replacements as they were around about 10 years before Ginger & co.

Nah, sadly they've been gone since 1991, but most of them are still active.

Check out their Wikipedia entry.

The most commonly available album is probably the recent 'best of' called Don't You Know Who I Think I Was. Their other stuff is still about, but you might have to wait for delivery while the shop sources it.

It was actually my American wife who turned me on to The Replacements after I played her some Wildhearts & she commented how much they sounded alike & played me a couple of albums by them.

In fact Ginger namechecks them in '29 x The Pain' (I think they are the first band he mentions) :D

I did hear a rumour they were getting back together. Their promo videos are pants though. All footage of band members feet!

The Replacements sound like The Wildhearts ? I bought "Let it Be" (cos of "Answering Machine") and, IMHO, they sound nothing like WH.
(In fact it was one of the worst albums Ive bought in a long time)

Well considering The Wildhearts were supposed to be a 'Beatles-meets Cheap Trick-meets Metallica' as they were first described when they came out (& even though they sound a lot better than those three bands combined), I suppose it is all in the ear of the listener.

I mean lets face it, The Beatles are overrated, Cheap Trick suck (especially live although I did see them once blow Motley Crue offstage in Manchester & completely fall apart in San Jose as support to Aerosmith) & Metallica are...well...a second rate Motorhead (& is there anyone in the rock world more annoying than Lars Ulrich?). :!:

Gene Simmons ? Axl Rose ? Vince Neil ?

All pretty equal I guess

All good choices!

As for Wildhearts soundalikes, what about the Threads? They have the "twists and turns" thing mastered. They're damn good too; they have an obvious Wildhearts influence but are in no way a ripoff.

Oh, and by the way........ Hi.

I wonder what you mean when you say that The Beatles as a whole were overrated? Not everything they did was great; they did produce some humdrum stuff and some crap, and I 'm not as crazy about say 'Sgt Pepper's' or 'Revolver' as I'm apparently supposed to be. However, I find it hard to imagine that any band will ever surpass their legacy of the sheer number and range of stunning, 'universally' appealing songs; their arc of creative evolution/revolution; their massive contribution to defining a treasured era in music; the way their influence reverberates through successive generations; their sheer popular, commercial and critical success and so on.

Discovering my Dad's Red and (especially) Blue vinyl double albums at about 14 was probably the most astonishing, eye-opening musical experience of my life. Holy shit! One band did all this? In less than 10 years?
