I'm no expert on the rules of getting a song in the charts but, if this is eligible(for length and download rules etc) then it certainly needs to be censored, (having heard the uncensored version, this ain't getting played on any major radio show!!)
Talking about getting other people to send it to you is a f**king joke. How is that helping the band???

I agree the bleeps are far from ideal, but the song is still immense and in two weeks we will all have the full proper uncensored album. Hopefully if enough people download it, the band will get the attention they deserve this time around!!

I can help the band by buying their album as I always have.

I can get the joke about the edited version, but that doesn't mean I have to buy it, or feel guilty that I didn't.

Agree with this 100%. I can see that it is probably a joke, but why turn such a good song into a "joke". It's hardly side fucking splitting is it?

Hi

Haven't heard the single yet but just read this thread from the beginning. Nice to see it's getting everyones blood boiling.

I have just a little question that I'm sure some of you will be able to answer for me:

Why order the album direct from Cargo? Will I get it before the 23rd? :? (or is there a CHANCE that I'll get before the 23rd?)

I ask as I've read that quite a few of you are doing this. I used to get stuff from Changes One back in the day but I'm a bit out of the loop nowadays.

Any chance of getting it before the 23rd would be great as going to the Southampton gig that day (drove down to Southampton on saturday to check out the area...the surrounding area is a bit of a shithole....anyone know what it's like inside the venue??)

Sorry....asking lots of questions unrelated to this thread

... and a question from me to add to that...

is the only way to order from cargo to order with a credit card - or can I send them a cheque or something??

Silly question I know... but dont have a credit/debit card and desperately want the album as soon as I can instead of trawling through HMVs searching for it... lol.

Zo, the website only mentions card sales, but you could contact them and see what they say.

Otherwise, couldn't you pre order it from your nearest HMV?

As cargo is the distributor, they'll have access to the album before the outlets they're supplying to (chances are it's sitting in a warehouse somewhere already). They tend to ship stuff a day or so early so that you're pretty much guaranteed it for Monday, however with the vagaries of the UK postal service, there's a good chance that it'll come saturday instead.

Saying that i did buy 'Yoni' the friday before it was out in one of the HMV's, here's hoping with everything crossed lol. Or i could just pre order it.

Yoni was on the shelves in some shops before the official release date, which pissed a few people off because punters in the Leeds HMV could buy it when punters in the Chesterfield one couldn't, etc. Best bet is to pre-order from Cargo - Howling Willie and Yoni both landed on my doormat before the release date!
How dare you!

The sweetest way to phuq up your computer

Postby Ginger_Is_God » 13th Apr 07, 00:45

Well I'm totally disappointed with Ginger's decision to make The Sweetest Song only available as a download.

I will never pay for music that has bloody DRM stuck in them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the music company's and dictators like the RIAA's way of keeping us from making the most of our rights as a consumer !!!!!!

DRM's are a virus after all. God only knows what the software from places like I-Tunes does to our PC's, I have no doubt they are full of spyware, and what I do on my PC is my business and no-one's else.

If you don't understand what I mean or why I'm so upset do some poking about on the internet , these bunch of dick-heads are trying to tell us what to do with the product we pay for. (Afterdawn.com)

I would have suspected that it goes against Gingers ethics as a rock fan and owner of a record label anyways.

So I will never get to listen to version of the song and that bloody sucks, getting screwed for sticking up for my rights as a consumer again. The politics of music downloads is one big land mine people, more and more music sites are dropping DRM because the informed public wont accept them. And there more expensive to us UK people !

Cheers for the rant

iCompletely behind you on the iTunes thing but isn't the eMusic site DRM free? & if you cancel your subscription after downloading the song you don't even have to pay for it :D

or have I missed something important again.... :?

Yeah, the whole pay to download system is a joke right now. The prices are so close to the prices of physical discs that you'd be a fool to not pay $3 more and get the whole disc, artwork, and the ability to rip to whatever format you please without DRM.

I'm pretty sure emusic and itunes are spyware-free, by the way. Emusic is actually a great site, but itunes is a totally micromanaged joke. If you want to get around their system, just download the tracks you want, burn them to a CD-RW (so you don't waste a disc) and rip them to mp3s. There will be no DRM in the new mp3s and the loss of quality will be negligible since you're converting from an average quality to a wav, and back to average quality.

On the point of quality.

The emusic version, which I have, is V2 VBR, which is a good standard that you can play on good speakers and put on CD without it being too obvious it isn't the CD itself.

If I downloaded from itunes, I'd not only have DRM, but a file fucked around with, transcoded and compressed to some shit format so the sound quality is terrible anyway

Maybe I care too much about bitrate, for the one song it's no major disaster as I'll be buying the CD, but if I was to ever pay to download a whole album I'd feel fucking ripped off

If iiTunes gave you the option of downloading a good quality mp3, or had different prices say to download their standard one, an mp3, or a CD quality FLAC file I'd maybe use it
