Landmines?

Nobody ever mentions Landmines and Pantomimes - is it cos it ws released without the band wanting it to be?

Am I right in thinking they are all B-sides? I've got most of the early singles but don't remember Abhoria or Vlevet Presley being a B-side?

I think half of its b-sides from Red Light Green Light..Beautiful Me, Beautiful You is one that was on a Best Of I think...

And from the websites History...
"During breaks in the European leg of the tour, they manage to record close to a complete album's worth of new material. The new songs include Abhoria, Ride The Wave, Tom Take The Money, Velvet Presley, State Of Nondependence and Stupid Things. A release is pencilled in for September."
So I think its material they either grew less fond of or couldnt use as it belonged to EastWest...I dunno, one of the more longtime fans will have to confirm what went on there...

I seem to recall that they recorded the material with Jef, all was really merry, and then something kooky happened when they left EastWest and signed to Mushroom and they lost the rights to the tracks. And it's really odd - the tracks couldn't be further from the EN material if they tried. Final thing - my biggest Wildhearts wish ever has been that they would actually record the songs properly. I love them all, and it kills me that they sound so awful mix-wise.

I've got quite a soft spot for Landmines actually, and to be honest I'm not really bothered by the production. To tell the truth I hadn't noticed anything different about them! (Bit of an audio pleb - quality wise I work on an "is it good, is it shit" thumbs up thumbs down rating system).

I certainly wouldn't be complaining with an official release and maybe some live airings. The slightly updated Weekend from the December 2004 tour was a step towards Landmines, but not a full embrace really.

What was the score with the re-release a few months back? What made that different from the original?

If i remember correctly, the only actualy difference between the versions is the packaging, the first one came in a bog standard jewel case and the re=released version comes in a case similar to a dvd one, anyone care to correct me?

17 Sep 2006 - Landmines and Pantomimes re-release warning
Ginger has asked us to pass on a warning about a re-release of Landmines and Pantomimes, a compilation of rarities originally released on Kuro Neko records and which the band had no input to. The new release is in a DVD-sized cardboard sleeve and is on the Mischief Music label (cat no. MM101). It features the artwork of the late Danny Deen and Ginger has asked people not to buy this new release as it is illegal. We are still trying to find further details about Mischief Music - if anyone has any contact details or further information, please let us know. Thanks

Jeez... ridiculous.

Like most of us, I have this album despite Ginger's insistence not to get it. I just want to have every Wildhearts song on its official release, and in the case of the first few songs, that's the only "official" place to get them, and I use that term loosely.

I hope to god that everyone who already has it will pass on this new version. That goes for those who haven't paid money for the original too. I'll be glad to send the songs to anyone who wants them.
