I would opt for Coupled With over Must Be Destroyed personally.

I'm off to work out what the tracklisting would be on a Wildhearts Double CD best of...say 30 tracks. Back in a few weeks.

Now, if they'd have just done the one album, with the following tracklisting, it would have ranked among their best for me...

Stormy in the North, Karma in the South
Nexus Icon
Putting It On
Vanilla Radio
LTD
There's Only One Hell
Action Panzer
One Love, One Life, One Girl
6:30 Onwards
Eager to Leave 'Er
It's All Up to Me
Bang!

You called Move On pop rock by numbers and are including Bang! (which is pop rock by pretty boring numbers with a Who rip off/tribute)? Fascinating.

Anyway, got to do this Coupled/MBD album thing myself tonight.

But Bang has one of the best choruses Ginger has written, and the Who "tribute" is fantastic, really arms in the air screaming along fantastic. Has Move On even got a chorus? I can't really remember anything about it, which is a sign of just not being that great a song... All IMHO of course...

I'm going to throw my praise in too for Bang. That track is awesome and Gingers scream during the Who bit is fantastic. Also You've Got to Get Through etc which demands to be played really loud. More fantastic B-sides better than most peoples A-sides.

Agree with Godzilla's Beard... A few slightly less great tracks on an album full of stonkers. Can't be bad... And of 20 songs, which run the full gamut of styles, there are bound to be disagreements over which are best...

I also love Got to get through and Looking for the one... But not enough to bang them on the resulting album. And... Bang, really hit after seeing it played at the Marquee club for Ginger's 40th... I had one of those hairs on the back of neck, tears in eyes moments at how fantastic it was... As well as with Monkey Zoo, Bad time, Loveshit... etc...

I really love that era of the band. With CJ back in the band and a billion great melodic rock tunes it was a brilliant "comeback" for Wildhearts. We couldn´t ask for more.

I cant stand tracks like "Nexus Icon" and "Get Your Groove On", but the rest of TWMBD is superb IMO. Some of the bands best stuff is one that album, and if I need more riffs I just put on some other Wildhearts records.

"Coupled With" also contains some classic stuff like Stormy, Putting it on, Cables +++,but it´s a typical b-side collection. It´s just amazing how the band can collect 20 really good tunes for a b-side collection based on a couple of years! As usual some of the b-sides kills the album tracks, but that´s why we love this band, right?! :)

Riff After Riff After Motherfucking Riff was a great Japan release, but I just did not understand the US Riff release. IMO the cover is great, the title is great and some of the tracks are great. But the tracklisting is bad IMO. It should have both Vanilla and So Into You, and US dont really need Return To Zero, do they? :) I think it would be a brilliant release with this tracklisting:

Vanilla Radio
Stormy
Putting It On
Looking For The One
Better Than Cable
So Into You
People That Life Forgot
Lake Of Piss
O.C.D.
Move on
You Got To Get Through.....
Lets Go

When I do a "best of" tracklisting from this era, it usually looks like this:

Vanilla Radio
Stormy
Better Than Cable
Only One Hell
All Up To Me
Looking For The One
Someone that Wont Let Me Go
Putting It On
You Got To Get Through.....
Move On
The People That Life Forgot
Top Of The World

...just my thoughts

Ross wrote:I like the intro, that's about it... The verses are just pop-rock by numbers... It just is a weak weak track...

But Let's Go is the worst track... The chorus bears no relation to the rest of the song and has no discernible tune.

I like Let's Go. I remember they opened with it one of the times they played JB's that year (2002, I believe). It was fantastic, came across like a call to arms.
