Least Played Record You Own

Postby kitescreech » 6th Jun 07, 19:40

Ok, what is the biggest pile of shit YOU have bought. the record/cd/tape that you played once and just hated. And it has to be one you chose and a proper record (not a kids nursery rhyme album or what have you.). Mine is...

The Replacements - Let it be.

Name checked in "29X...", loved "answering machine" when Ginger covered it live. i bought the album, managed about 2 plays of the whole thing, played "Answering MAchine" a few more times and just sorta stared at it, puzzled.

Nirvanas "Nevermind" gets an honourable. Ive played it a lot just to see what it is im issing and I just DO NOT GET IT.

*shrugs*

Edit. I dont want this to turn into a slagging/defending game. We all have ouropinions, Im just being nosey. No sacred Cows were harmed during the making of this list.

Oooh good thread. I definitely have a few:

Nirvana's 'Bleach' is one I'm constantly skipping if it ever comes up on my WMP. Didn't even bother bringing it with me last time I came to Uni. Can't explain what it is really, I like all their other albums but Bleach just pisses me off. The riffs, the vocals, the song structures. THey all bug me.

Also The Thermal's album 'More Parts Per Million' (I think that's what it's called, don't have the case to hand) was reccomended to me not too long ago. Probably the worst album I've ever heard. The production is terrible - an awful, trebly mess with vocals that actually cause a piercing sensation to the ears because of how badly they're mixed. THe songs are all total shit as well, it's practically the same spasticated guitars chords over the same whinging, howling vocals. Their album 'The Body The Blood The Machine' shows what can be achieved with a little common sense in the studio, and is actually a fairly decent powerpop-esque record. 'More Parts Per Million', however, is total wank.

Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R

I don't really get how they're so popular. I miss Kyuss.
I only bothered keeping the album for the Mark Lanegan track 'In The Fade'.

SteveP, funnily enough I liked all of those albums except Soulfly (never heard it - more of a Chaos AD man, myself  ). You ought to try the 3rd Strokes album - one of the tunes even sounds a bit like 'Lovebank'.

I got Crass 'Feeding Of The 5000' recently and thought that was rubbish. Bit of a soapbox album - lots of political ranting and no tunes. You can sit next to some wanker in a pub and get that so you don't really need the album. I've got a few hip hop cd's that aren't up to much as well, but most stuff I get I either like or grows on me eventually.

In fact the only types of music I really can't stand are banging-chipmunk-hardcore dance music & that slick R&B stuff which, bearing in mind that R&B stands for Rhythm & Blues, fails on two very obvious counts.

Other than that I can usually find something I like in any genre.

The first Let Loose album. Bought as a joke from a charity shop cos my mate played on it when he was a young session guitarist desperate for cash. The experience was obviously traumatic for him, cos he ended up becoming an accountant.
How dare you!

X-Factor and Virtual XI by Iron Maiden. I love this band, but the only decent thing Blaze did for the band was leave when Bruce came back.

*whispers* All the Therapy? albums.

I dunno, I've never been able to get into. My ex's top 4 were the Wildhearts, AntiProduct, Dogs D'Amour and Therapy?. Adored the first three, so I figured that I couldn't go wrong with the fourth, but they've never doen anything for me.
