..and I'd only just been introduced to the delights of Fopp.
Looks like the future isn't so good for music shops.. :(

Yeah I read that. I was GUTTED.

I work in a part of London where Fopp is the only decent shop (and only music shop). I spend every lunchtime there (Yes, I am a bit boring) browsing all the £5 cds and £3 books.

I was meaning to buy some stuff too, so that's down the pan.

Bloody MP3s etc. It won't be long before you can't buy any music in physical form and that will be a sad day.

A very upset lemon.

They just opened a branch in Cumbernauld (a satalitte shithole 15 miles east of Glasgow) in the "brand new town centre" 2 weeks ago. (you might have seen the old one on Demolition on Channel 4 as the worst bulding in the UK)

We had a laugh and a joke about how it wouldn't belong before it shuts down as all decent record stores in Vietnauld do (well, the 3 or so before them) and then this comes on the news!!!!!

Too many neds to have a decent music shop here. Not enough bollox that the so called youth of today are interested in!!!

The line in the Arctic Monkeys song A Certain Romance rings so true with this outpost, "There's only music so that there's new ringtones!"

Cunts!!!!!
Did you lie to us, Tony?

Another huge dissapointment. I'm a massive Fopp enthusiast - or was...

So it goes, eh?

I used to love that place! Could spend absolute hours in there and not get bored!

Total shame :(

It wasn't spending time in there that was my problem.

Sadly, my credit card breathed a sigh of relief when it heard... :?

haha yeah fortunately I'm not old enough for a credit card, only just got a debit card the other day though!
I had a limited amount of money with me so I had to be clever with what I spent it on!!

I was clever too - I figured if I bought everything, I'd only have to go there once. It's been fairly effective the last five or six times I've been there...

Shame that wasn't quite enough to keep 'em in business.. :P

Credit/debit cards are evil things.. I miss the days of only having a spending budget of £20 per shopping trip. :/

From the title I actually thought someone from the Ohio Players had passed away.

People buy cheap cds in Tesco and Asda now. Fopp just expanded way too fast. I was never a big fan as they just didn't stock much new music for me. And when they did it was like seventeen quid. Think that the onlike shops are doing soo well like Play.

Yes that is Cumbernauld, I remember when they had Our Price, that shop was not too bad. Mainly as some of the people who ran it were into music and you could ask for an album and they knew what it was. If you ask in HMV for an album that is not in the chart you get a very blank look.

I still get a £20 budget! but now it's on a debit card so it makes me feel like I'm spending more(yeah don't know how that works O.o ) I'm good at sweet talking the Mam though so I sometimes get more

Sad news indeed, i reckon it's been a domino effect almost;

Woolworths buy MVC and run it into the ground....

Then MVC goes solo for a bit (best time working there)

MVC get bought out (mostly) by Music Zone

Music Zone get into trouble and close

Fopp take on Music Zone stores

Fopp closes...

Lets see how HMV fair. If they keep with getting 'specialist' stuff (has anyone seen a WH album in Tesco or Asda?) they should just keep afloat, especially since they're one of the only two corporate record stores left on the high street (ignoring Woolies obviously cos they don't count).

My bets are on Virgin Closing.....maybe.
