After reading this thread, I am getting the vibe that the album is good, but not great. Is that fair?

I actually reserved my copy (the only copy they had) with Virgin yesterday but whilst walking into town to get it I thought about the comments I'd read so far and turned back. I of course called Virgin to tell them to put it back on the shelf - coz I'm nice like that.

I know it's early doors but the comments I've seen so far have made me decide not to get it (if I had more money I would....but I don't)

Nowadays I don't have the time or money to gamble on albums - I rely on reviews and threads like this to control my destiny

The album's really fantastic. Best pure pop-rock I've heard since Jellyfish.

Could've Been Beautiful is just gob-smackingly good. One of the best Wildhearts-related releases ever.

8.5/10.

Thanks!
Does anyone know where I can download it from any torrent sites? Of course if I like it I will buy it, but want to listen first...

I am loving this album so much that I cannot possible put my feelings about it into words.

It just sounds like pure CJ on a CD :)

At times it reminds me of some of the more pop sounding tracks from ...Must Be Destroyed. At other times I hear hints of Jellys in there.

I reckon if you liked the Jellys stuff (maybe not the more silly, offbeat songs but the general shinyness of the songs) you will like this album.

Oh and the japanese version is worth getting for the demo tracks which sound finished to me and are really quite good !

HMV despatched mine while I was at Glastonbury, although it hasn't arrived yet.

I just walked into a shop and bought my copy.

I'm kinda old fashioned that way.

Not listened to it yet but I have ripped to my computer at work and transferred it to my MP3 player already hahaha old fashioned yeah right. The CD will probably never even make it to the CD player such is the wonderul joy of MP3 players.

Still nice to have the CD though

Still waiting for the CD to arrive.. but there are a few tracks on their MySpace, which are pretty damn good, if that helps you decide.

Best thing he's done since Honeycrack, I'm lovin' it :)
And he's playing Sheffield this time so I don't have to drive to Blackpool.

Tragically, I no longer live in Sheffield & aren't really in touch with my mates there anymore. Shame as its a nice place to live when its not under three feet of water.

I could stay with my Nan but that would be too traumatic for all concerned...

Woo, finally got my CD. Pretty damn good.

Kind of annoyed they're not playing a Manchester gig, though. :/

I like the album a lot, but I also think it could be 3-4 songs shorter. IMO, when you're working in that straight-ahead pop/rock vein, it's best to keep the album around 10-11 songs/40-ish minutes. But that's just my personal preference.

Keep in mind that I have the Japanese import, so I suppose I could stop listening after "Written In Blood" . :)

I can't rate it more highly really - it hasn't even had to 'grow' on me like most albums do; I'd listened to Girl's On Fire to death on CJ's myspace and thought that the rest of the tunes couldn't match it, but they do. For me the standout track has to be Written In Blood (track 12 for those without lists!), absolutely awesome. What with this and The Wildhearts being release within just a couple of months of each other nothing else will get a look in for a while.
