Madonna's "young girl with eyes like potatos" from La Isla Bonita is always a favourite.

Many many mis-heard Wildhearts lyrics...the best being as a result of that Mushroom newsletter that invited us to try and guess the lyrics to "Urge" for a prize...I had a field day with that.

"Go, shake it up, piece of beef!" "Lets go away at the weekend, just don't forget where's the beef!" "Maybe a horse or a pig or a rabbit..."

Along with the slightly earlier line :-

"Last night I dreamt of some petrol"

To completely reverse the subject, I can't work out some of the lyrics to Return To Zero, but the one line I'm more or less 100% about is the quite bizarre "I am the new commander of the delirious" at the end of the second verse... :?

A couple that spring to mind are from 29x The Pain.

The line about "Jason scorching past" I thought was "I need chasers, scotch, and fast". Which is why I thought it was amusing that Danny called his band The Chasers.
Also for a long time I thought it was "So when you're higher than Richy James".
Also, the first time I heard TWMBD was an "unofficial" copy long before the release. All I had was a blank CD with no tracklisting or anything. Therefore I thought the openning track was called "Mr Psycho"! Go on, listen to it and try singing Mr Psycho. It makes sense!

I used to hear "I need Jason Scott to pass", which led to two questions... Who? and why? :?

That'll be from Ginger Nuts issue 4 (the Dana/Leanna production that came out in the summer of '95). Those misheard lyrics are from 'Suckerpunch: The Deaf Sod's Version', which also features the splendid couplet: "Combination and cocoa wazzock / Trans-a-lation is sad and sickly".

The funny thing is, it sounds so right.

And Ean - "Jason Scott to pass" is what Tara and I originally heard that line as too. I remember sitting in her bedroom trying to figure out all the lyrics to this song. Who was the mysterious Jason Scott? A member of some amazing band, no doubt.

Sometimes you just have to go with what feels right! On a slight tangent for example - Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" she sings "I don't care, I've had no luck, I don't miss it all that much" - just doesn't feel right....now if the line finished "I don't really give a fuck" - that would work!

Glad I'm not the only one who's tempted by that Natalie Imbruglia line. In a similar, if a bit sillier, vein, Hold Me Close by David Essex always seems to be begging me to sing a different line to the one that was written.

There's a bit that goes "With your love light shining / Every cloud's got a silver lining". So later in the song when he sings "With your love light shining clearly", it feels so right to finish it with "Every cloud's got a silver willy", instead of the real line: "It's so good to have you near me".

My own list of atrocities!!!!!!!!

I need a dole cheque, just to get away- Caffiene Bomb
Leave me, Beat me, I just wanna be on my own- Liberty Cap
Parties that last for a couple of days, no one sleeps, cos it's better that way- Sky Babies
Shutting out fire in the flame of July- Just In Lust
Hey start her up- Caprice (Justified cos a Caprice is an American car!!!!)
Just past bedtime instead of Just might stay tight in Red Light- Green Light

PLUS: several songs I have no idea about any of the lyrics, except for certain parts
eg, In Like Flynn, Soul Searching on Planet Earth, the faster bits of can't do right for doing wrong, Lovebank!!!!

Am I really a fan?????, should I really have this many unknown/ misheard lyrics in my memory?????

Question is, how do you remove the crap lyrics and imprint the proper ones in your head, I still can't get "Pulling hair and eating nuts" from Baggy Trousers by Madness out of my head, after 20 years!!!!!

No, you're clearly not a fan... Please turn in your cloakroom pass and never darken our doorway again.

God knows. Endless repeated listening and beating them into my heid did it for me. And are you suggesting that those aren't the right lyrics?

They played this on the radio today, so I stuck in the 'new' line to get a feel for it.
