I've got some cracking cover albums like the NOFX/Rancid split album where they play each others stuff(like NOFX doing a reggae version of Radio which i love) and the Dropkick Murphys Rareities 2 album which is all punk and rock covers.

Another reason i love cover albums is that i usually end up liking bands i hadn't heard before.

Bring it on and lets hear some covers like White Riot or Career Oppurtunties by The Clash or Personality Crisis by New York Dolls. :D

NOFX absolutely KILLED the rancid tracks they did!! See, it SHOULD work... but it didn't!

I do agree with you about the murphies covers tho :D

And of course I'd love to hear the wildhearts cover just about anything by the clash, that would be fantastic :)

I'm not sure.... I generally slag off other bands that do cover albums, because I would rather hear new music. Covers are great at gigs and as b-sides as it allows the casual listener to appreciate the style of the band's music with a song they may have heard before.

To the outsider this will look like a Wildhearts cash-in, and not help my defence to my mates, some who reckon the Wildhearts are a spent force. (I hasten to add not me, I'm here aren't I?!)

Having said that - I'll buy it and treat it like a new WH album, and if one band can pull it off it should be the Wildhearts.

I can't believe the negativity from some of you. It should be great and as someone said, it's only 7 months since we had a brand new album and Ginger never stops writing either. In the meantime, The Wildhearts are all such accomplished musicians (something that happily now gets talked about more than drugs/fights/splits and all that boring old nonsense) that I suspect they probably put this together in no time at all...

And think of the covers they've done to date. Not many, but they've all been great. They're good at it, dammit.

True dat with Cheap Trick, but Helmet and Fugazi are 2 of the most influential bands in their respective genre's. It doesn't get much more notable than Fugazi in terms of influence and consistent awesomeness! Even if folk don't know all the bands maybe it'll turn you on to something new. I for one probably wouldn't have got into Big Black, Cheap Trick or Ryan Adams if it weren't for Ginger giving them props...

Haha - damn you! I honestly thought it was a coincidence when that came out, can't hear any Fugazi influence in The Wildhearts music. Maybe after seeing which song they cover all will become clear...

They were/are a punk/rock band formed by Ian MacKaye from Minor Threat some time in the mid to late eighties. Being a MacKaye band they're v. political and are loved by the punk community for their ethical take on ticket and CD prices (i.e. cheap) and DIY spirit. Check out wikipedia if you want to know the whole story, MacKaye's done a lot of stuff!

I've been into them for a while but seem to remember finding them quite inaccessable at first due to the lack of melody and general lo-fi-ness of the recordings. However perseverence is the key as the songs are intricately constructed and the lyrics insightful and clever. Wildhearts fans should appreciate the unusal and choppy-changey rhythms as well as the passion which is there in all of MacKaye's bands e.g. Minor Threat and Embrace (not that one thankfully!). For me the best thing about Fugazi is the guitar work which is both technically astonishing and creative which is quite rare in a band, most are content to shred or be generally dull. Expect plenty of guitar soundscapes and weird chords!

If I were to recommend a place to start it would be their last album 'The Argument' which is their most accessable, although in my opinion they've not released a bad record so buy or download whatever you can find!

Check me out, I sound like Fugazi's no 1 groupie!

Now that would be a great song to cover! I don't mind an album of covers,I'm sure it will be all good.I'd love to hear The Wildhearts do a version of Turbonegro's 'Drenched In Blood' though!

Well, okay, maybe I'm just sulking that there's no mention of Dolly Parton or Spice Girls covers.. ;)

I reckon a version of 'Love Machine' by Girls Aloud would be wicked. But that's just me. But then again that one's been done. Hoping the Icicle Works song is 'Love is a Wonderful Colour'. Wouldn't mind finding out either who chose what tracks.

i know it's an obvious choice, but i'd like to see a Therapy? cover in there somewhere...

maybe "sister" or "i am the money."

WHY NOT JUST PLAY THE BASTARD ANYWAY?!

Talking of cover albums. I like Tesla's new double cd of cover versions. A fine band.

when they did that WH/T? tour, they teased us by starting the intro to 'ten year plan' which i would have loved.

To be honest I haven't really heard much material from most of the bands mentioned so to me it'll sound just like a new Wildhearts album. Yippee :D

Plus I love their cover of Wild Zero. It demands to be played loud.
